I am a little stumped and am wondering if this is normal. I just had baby #3 ( she is almost 3 days old, so brand new.) Here is my background info, if that helps:
-DD1, BF exclusively 4 yrs, never a supply issue, huge letdown reflex, never had a bottle and I never pumped. Very smooth...no latch issues, nothing.
-DD2 (8yrs later), BF and pumped (was working FT) exclusively, she weaned herself 6 months ago around 25/26 months old. Milk came in 48hr after birth, supply was huge, never had issues pumping enough, nothing. Great letdown reflex. Very smooth experience.
SO DD2 weaned about 6 months ago. My supply mostly dried out shortly after. Baby 3 came Saturday, and within hours I had milk flowing (dribbling out of her mouth, she was spitting up straight milk...the nurse was like...that was fast!!). My guess, since there was engourgement or anything, was that it was just some milk memory there or something. She latched great and it was fine. Came home, and between 48hr and 72 hr the real milk come in hit. I spend last night totally engourged.
But I have no leaking and no letdown that I have had with my last two. My breasts keep filling, baby relieved the pressure when she eats, they went from A's to DD's, she is peeing a ton, she seems full and satisfied.
But normally at this point, when baby eats on one side, my milk lets down and the oher breast leaks everywhere. I could not even hand express a drop last night on one side to relieve the pressure, while baby was nursing on the other.
It is normal to not feel let down or leak at this stage? Is it because I recently weaned? Is it too early?
