Long time hser feeling lost in choosing the long term plan for high school.

Oh so brief background. Oldest dd was put in school for over a year and chose to bring herself back home. While there, she was labeled gifted. Younger ds is obviously talented and gifted. Our hs has been an eclectic mix. A little Classical/CM/Montessori/Waldorf and traditonal workbooks.
I love literature based curricula the best.
I am not a structured person by nature, and also am not a anatural teacher/planner/organizer. I am also not a crafty person. (Please don't ask me who/what I am as i am trying to figure that out, and that would be a whole other thread.) I hs b'c I loathe classrooms, loathe having our dc trapped in a brick and mortar, and love customizing their education to fit their needs.
That's part of the problem. I am havinga hard time figuring out what their needs/learning styles are (after reading books about this very topic) and finding a curriculum that is a good match for all of us.
As I look long term at hsing my oldest, I find my head spinning out of control. I don't want to mess her up. I want her to be able to do well on college entrance exams as she plans on attending college.
I think for all the info the www provides, when it comes to hsing, imho it totally lacks MORE reviews and a FREE ability for hsing consulting.
IRL, most go with choices like A beka, and then hand their dc over to the local cc or co-op during high school. Me wants a happy medium of some. sort.
Am I asking for the moon?

I don't think you are asking for the moon. But I think the reason there is nothing out there is that each homeschool situation is unique.

I'm still years away from worrying about college, but I understand that they have become more accommodating of homeschoolers and will look at portfolios and SAT scores, there are also lots of resources out there for preparing for them. I also know that several high school homeschoolers in our area take a community college class or two to fill in areas that they don't have the resources to do at home.
Good luck

My homeschooled DD is now in college & doing well. She took her GED when she was 16 to graduate. We didn't use any curriculum with her (long story), so I'm unhelpful there. My oldest homeschooler now is starting 7th grade next yr & I have had high school on my mind lately as well. I don't think I know what his "learning style" is either.

I'd like to get my hands on a few books, such as:

Home Designed High School
Homeschooling High School

And actually, you should look at the other books listed with that second book I linked above. I see several books for homeschoolers trying to figure out college, etc.

Another resource that might be helpful is the high school forum over at WTM.

Thanks for the book links!

I've visited the WTM forums in general and find them over the top overwhelming for *me*. I suppose I should hang out in the high school forums just to weed out my questions and concerns. Thanks for the reminder.
