So I got a BFP last week at 13-14dpo, on a FRER. (it was a nice dark second line) It was a 2 pack, so I thought I would take the other test this am with FMU just to see an even darker second line. (18-19dpo) Problem is, there was barely a line It was sooo faint. Please tell me the truth, it's not a good sign, is it? I have crappy insurance and cant really afford to go get a HCG blood test done.

shoot. i'm sorry you're dealing with this. you know, i've heard again and again from people that the darkness of the line is not necessarily indicative of anything. it could have something to do with the concentration in your own urine, and i've also heard people say that tests can vary, even same brand, same box. that is just so frustrating to not be able to find out, though. I would be worried too. I wish I could offer more. maybe someone else will have further thoughts on this.

i think it's not a great sign, BUT they do say you can not use an hpt as an indicator of the amt of hcg, only the presence of it.

do you have a doctor or midwife? can you call them and just ask a question about it over the phone? otherwise, maybe get a quantitative hcg blood test, it's probably less than you've spent all together on hpts. it's $40 on prepaidlab.com. you'd probably need 2 of them a couple days apart. at least that would save the doctor visit expense. or if you can wait a couple days and take another hpt. if it turns to negative, then you know what to expect, but it may turn out to be fine.

That is what happend to me in November with my chemical pg. BUT it does not mean it will happen that way for you. There are too many factors to decide with a hpt, did you drink more water? was the test less sensitive? (two of the same brand in the same pack can have different sensitivity) I would agree with Karmab and see if you can get a blood test. Or try another hpt tomorrow. I'm really hoping for the best for you!

Thanks, mamas! I did call to see how much the test would be and they are $51 each. I just cant spend that much, or even the $80 that you mentioned, Karma. I did use FMU and it was a FRER, so I'm really thinking it doesn't look good. i also just used another test (not a FRER, a grocery store brand) and the line is basically a squinter. Amy, if you don't mind me asking, what can I expect to happen if this is indeed a chemical pregnancy? When should I start bleeding? I've never dealt with a miscarriage before I just wish I knew 100% what was going on since we were planning the big announcement this weekend at DD 3rd birthday party. She had her "big sister" shirt all ready to wear.

I want to tell you you aren't out yet. For me, I just knew in my heart... I feel very lucky I started bleeding just a few days after my bfp turned bfn. I watched it get lighter daily and then finally nothing. Pretty much about a week after my first bfp. My af was heavier but not the worst I've had. Emtionally it was rough. But easier than my first m/c. I'm sorry for you. I really hope it's just a bum batch of tests. Be kind to yourself, if it is a chemical don't minimize how you feel. A loss is a loss, no matter when it happens. Even if it's not a "baby" it's still all your hopes and dreams.

Thank-you so much for the support, Amy. I'm so sorry about your miscarriages. Honestly, I think the real reason I took that test this morning was because I had a feeling something wasn't right. I plan on taking another test in a few days, but yeah... I think I'm out!

I'm very sorry... With my second miscarriage I never got a good, dark BFP. I knew something was wrong right from the start.

Hugs! And, if you can, try again right away. BFP rates go up a bit in the first 3 cycles following a miscarriage.

I've had two m/cs, but had never taken further pg tests so I can't say when/what my tests would have been like along the way. I hope that there is some other explanation for this, but if it does turn out to be a chemical pg or early m/c, please take good care of yourself and let us know how you're doing. Lots of us have been in similar situations and will be here for whatever support you might need.

Not to scare you but this is what happened with my loss 2 weeks ago. I got nice dark lines for a couple of days and then they started fading until finally the bleeding started. I did have my hcg checked so I already knew what was happening.

I hope your experience is different. Don't lose hope just yet.
