Breastmilk deficient due to my own vitamin deficiencies?

Would my breastmilk be deficient if I am significantly deficient of one or more vitamins/minerals? Would the supplements I take for it get into my milk as well, or would the baby need separate supplements?

Yeah I looked there but it seemed to be more for moms with no known nutritional deficiencies?? I guess I always heard that my body would somehow make balanced milk even if my diet wasn't perfect etc. but I haven't been able to find much for someone with serious deficiencies (& they're not due to dietary issues).

From what I understand, your body will leach what it can out of you to make milk that is good. You could probably have your milk tested (I imagine, at least). Presumably, if your body is absorbing the vitamins from the supplement, it'll designate what's needed toward the making of milk.

if you are vit d deficient, your milk will be too.

Hmm yeah I'm wondering if it's worth having my milk tested or just assume the supplements will enrich the milk? DS is almost 16mos so he's not dependent on just breastmilk (and has no signs of deficiencies) but obviously I still want to be giving 'good' milk!!

With a child that old I wouldn't bother testing the milk, but I'd maybe test his blood levels, if you think you've been deficient since he was EBF...
