No weight gain in 3rd trimester

Hmm, so granted I am overweight and clearly have plentiful fat stores.
I gained 5 kilos total in trimesters 1 and 2 but haven't gained since. I'm now 34 wks. According to websites, even overweight women would normally gain 1lb per wk in the 3rd tri.

DH thinks I'm looking slimmer all over except for my belly, of course.
I am (and have been consistently) measuring slightly small, about 2 wks behind dates but the women in my family generally cook babies to 42 wks anyway.
I am eating healthily, 3 moderately sized meals (ok, dinner is smaller) plus snacks of cheese, bananas and other fruits, occasional ice-cream or cake
My only concern is that baby won't be a good healthy size if I'm not gaining but that's prob not true, is it?
DS was 8lbs2oz at 42 wks. I gained 20lbs overall that pg but I was 50lbs heavier starting out.

I havent gained a pound over my pre-pregnancy weight. I also started out overweight and am now 24 weeks... very very obviously pregnant but DF has said more than once he can tell I am losing weight.

Im not TRYING to lose weight (and from what you are saying it doesnt sound like you are either) but between eating healthier for the babys sake and still trying to take care of my other two, the bad-fat on my body seems to be disappearing on its own.

No one is worried about baby though, she is doing just fine and measuring the same as she has the whole time.

I wouldnt worry about weight gain, so much as whether or not baby seems to be getting larger (measuring 2 weeks behind at every visit sounds like they are just fine!)

i am in a similar position. i actually have lost 10 pounds in the 3rd tri. i gained a bunch initially and am now at about 18 pounds up for the entire pregnancy at almost 36 weeks, also with *plenty* of extra storage! i notice that my body is getting smaller - hips, butt, arms - but the important part which is my belly and the baby are moving along a little too nicely. an ultrasound estimate from yesterday puts him at 7 lbs with another 4 weeks to go!

i think mother nature knows how to take care of the baby and will make sure it is getting the nutrition it needs even if it has to zap it from the mother.

Were you eating the same food that you've been eating before since you got pregnant? Or it has increased? Coz if you're eating the same amount of food that you've been eating before you got pregnant, then of course you'll get slimmer and won't gain any pounds but the nutrients that you're getting is going to the baby.

My cousin used to be fat before she got pregnant, but during her pregnancy she got slimmer and slimmer everyday. And mainly because she's carrying twins and most of the nutrients that she's eating goes to the babies..so that's probably the case why you're not gaining...but I am not sure though. But yeah, I think my cousin did gain some pounds but the fact the she's carrying twins is not enough pounds to gain. It should have been double..

Same here. I'm 32 weeks and have gained 6 pounds so far. I realized last week (when my favorite unwire bra broke) that I could fit into a bra I bought 18 months ago and never really wore, so yes, I think apart from the baby I'm losing weight. My midwives aren't concerned though. The baby is measuring even a little big and so I'm just going to take it as a happy surprise. I haven't had the appetite during this pregnancy that I had pre-pregnancy so I'm sure that accounts for it. I'm trying to make sure what I do eat is healthy to nourish this baby properly.

I didn't gain an ounce in my third tri with ds & he was 8lb 9oz. If you have the extra weight already it's not necessarily a concern.

So long as you're eating well and baby is showing clear signs of growth, I wouldn't be overly concerned. I'm one who really doesn't gain weight through most of pregnancy, and it's fine. My MW was here yesterday and I assured her that I am definitely eating (and plenty of calories) even though I'm losing weight. I've been pretty sick, but I'm only just into the 2nd tri. I do tend to put on a LITTLE in the third tri, but not much.

If you're measuring consistently - i.e., not further behind than you have been, and baby is showing all signs of good development (lots of movement, responsiveness, etc) then I would not be too concerned.

24 weeks yesterday and I am JUST hitting my pre-pregnancy weight again.

I wanted to add, since I am overweight (okay ... obese) to begin with my midwife prefers I don't even step on scales at the doctors office or her visits but rather keep an eye on my weight at home. We aren't worried about lack of gaining, but rather a large sudden loss or a large sudden gain. Like... 5 pounds in a couple days... enough to worry pretty much anyone.

I didn't gain an ounce with my DD and she was 8.14. With this pregnancy, I've actually lost 13lbs this pregnancy (from conception date). I am overweight and have gestational diabetes, so my sugar intake was limited the first pregnancy. This pregnancy, my GD is 10x as bad so I'm VERY limited with sugar. My Dr's have all said that as long as the baby is growing (and I have growth ultrasounds every 3 weeks due to the GD), it doesn't matter how much I weigh or if I lose. I say you're just eating very healthy and that's a good thing!
