Polio Vax

My husband regularly travels to Asia for business. My question is regarding the transmission of Polio. If he's been vax'ed for polio, would he be able to carry the disease back with him? I realize he wouldn't get sick, but I'm not sure if he would spread it or not.

did he get the IPV or the OPV....if he's an adult, he has probably gotten the OPV.
I wouldn't worry about it

With waning vax immunity, he would have to have a titer check to be sure. (although there is some controversy over titers = immunity)

He would need to have had the OPV to prevent transmission - as Marnica stated. The IPV does not prevent transmission.

Is he in polio endemic areas?

Thanks for the responses!

We'll have to check which he got, but being in his 30s it's likely the OPV. He would also likely not be in endemic areas. He visitis mainly the large cities, but in China there are so many workers coming in from the rural ares, so you never know.

He supports my decision not to vax as long I do enough research. And it's so overwhelming! Appreciate the feedback!

Inside Vaccines is apparently doing a series on Polio.
