Is it time?

My first life companion Kaya is 15. She is a mix hound mostly blue tick. The last couple years she has been declining. Currently she is deaf almost completely blind, her back side gives her problems (walks with some difficulty, falls down stairs etc..) has canine dementia and walks around aimlessly all day, is becoming sporadically incontinent of stool and urine. She has always been a real food crazed dog, now its almost unbearable. When food is around she is NUTS, whining and straight out barking, panting running around. I feed her all the time now as I do feel this is close to the end, people food and dog treats and food.

Today she bit both my daughter trying to snatch food out of their hands. The baby didnt notice but my dd1 is 4 and she left teeth marks on her, it scared her and she cried.

My husband is almost constantly annoyed and angered by her and the chaos she creates with the whining and barking. and now my dd1 has said thing like "I hate Kaya".

We have tried confining her, sedating her, learning to have more tolerance etc...

Sorry its long... but my question is ...what kind of quality of life does she have now, she looks scared and disoriented most of the time. Then sudden spurts of puppy emerge. So what do I do, wait till it's really bad, when is that...dd2 is starting to walk, we have to keep vigilant eye on the kids she gets startled and response defensively. UGH HElP

to be honest, it sound slike you all ready know what to do but need someone to say its okay. Its okay. Her quality of life and yours is not good. Do what is best for her even though its hard for you.

Her biting your dds is the final piece. Go to the vet, talk to them and then take yoru decision. She is now a danger to your family but n ot out of evil intent.

That's what I was thinking. Has she been checked out by the vet?

We had to put our Blue Tick down almost 2 years ago. She had some of the same symptoms but they diagnosed her with a brain tumor and she got really bad really fast at the end. It's so so hard to make this decision but if she isn't living the way she should be, it's time.

I'm so sorry.
