Frequent urinator that hates being wet...help!

Our son is 6 weeks old and he pees 17-20 times a day. He's done this since week 2. The doctor has tested and examined him and says he's a "healthy boy". But he also said this amount of peeing is WAY out of the norm.
We have cloth diapered from day one, pre-folds and wool soakers. He HATES being wet and cries immediately. So we change him, and change him, and change him....
Has anyone had a similar experience? Does anyone's child pee this much?!
The doctor wants us to put him in disposables at night, which has sort of helped. He doesn't know he's wet so he fills those diapers up. But he's only 6 weeks old, and I wasn't intending to use disposables at all.
Any suggestions about nighttime wetness? I fear that his sleep will be forever effected by this constant waking. I don't want to be using disposables long term. But I am nervous about investing in a whole other system of diapering like the AIO's or pockets, just to find out it has no effect.

Have you considered doing some EC? Even part time?

here! Ds pees frequently, though not 17-20 times a day every day. He's almost 11 mos old though. I typically wash 25-30 diapers for 2 days. Sometimes more. We use fitteds and change him after every pee.

His frequent urination seems to be related to food sensitivities, specifically salicylates (a food chemical). He's sensitive to these through breastmilk.

If you want a relatively cheap stay-dry night solution, you could consider these suedecloth "socks". You could put your pf's in them, and lay in a cover. You can also try cutting up microfleece, and just laying it on top of your pf's. I find it shifts around and exposes the wet cotton underneath, though.

eta- wanted to add that now that I am on an ED and am pretty sure all his trigger foods are out, he pees less frequently. I'm not sure how much less frequently though. Last time I counted, I was washing 18-20 diapers for 2 days, and not the 25+ from before. It seems like it's even less now; I've been going longer between washing days because it takes longer for the pail to get full.

My son did this... well, my younger one anyway. We were changing 15-20 diapers a day till he was a couple months old. Once he stopped pooping at night we started using pockets at night so he didn't feel wet.

Sounds pretty normal to me. I also change as well except when sleeping and sometiems we go a bit longer if out (and she actually allows it) I'm still aveaging around 14 diapers a day and my LO sleeps 10 hours at night and takes 2 naps a day one around 2-3 hours and the other about 1hour.

When my oldest was an infant, I bought a fourth dozen prefolds because I was changing her diaper 18 times a day. My baby uses about 15 diapers a day right now. This was without any night time changes, as she miraculously stayed dry all night at a very early age (I guess that was because she REALLY didn't want to be wet.) My baby uses about 15 diapers a day. I have a kind of different view of the crying when wet. Crying is a baby's way of communicating. It's all they've got (well, they start to develop other sounds, and you're probably able to differentiate different cries). Your baby is getting LOTS of great experience communicating his needs. I'd start using a consistent sign/gesture with him when he needs his diaper changed, and chances are he'll pick up that baby sign pretty early and then the crying will decrease. For now, changing him as often as you can/he needs helps keep his skin clean and fresh. A stay dry liner (or even a disposable) isn't a bad idea for night time though! Buying one or two AIO's or pockets isn't a huge investment. You don't have to buy a whole new system to try them out.

I don't really think peeing so much is out of the ordinary at that age. I just think that parents don't usually notice the baby has peed until he has peed another couple of times.
