Tetanus vax and 7 year old

Thread Starter
Almost 3 years ago I heard Dr. Bob Sears speak at the LLLI conference. I walked away having decided that my then 4 yo now 7 yo would not get his 'kindergarten' shots but would receive a tetanus vax at his 7 year check up. Well that check up is in 2 weeks and I have been told that a tetanus only vax does not exist. I do want him to have it. He has received 3 DTaP. Any thoughts on what to do? I have been looking and looking and cannot find any information for a child that is partially vaxed (he was up to date according to the AAP until he turned 5). I would appreciate any thoughts, opinions and/or information you can give. Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I thought it was only the pertussis portion of the vaccine that was the reason for all the DTaPs in childhood. I _thought_ the tetanus portion was supposed to last a lot longer, and since you've already done it 3x, you may be set.

I _think_ the age of 7 years is because the TT vaccine is licensed for people age 7 and up--definitely check, maybe I'm remembering wrong.

If he's received 3 DTaP, he should be good to go.

You are right that there is no single tetanus vax for a 7yo. It's TD. I recently got this for my own 7yo ds, after he'd had two DTaP during the year he was 6.
