I know I can't be the only one! It would be great to get together with some other mammas who have a bit of understanding of what I am going through.

QoTM, I have to laugh at the "reason for edit"
hdirks...I'm not in Iowa, so I can't help, BUT...ask your daughter's drs and therapists! They probably are rather in tune with the special needs community and can direct you to some groups local to you.
BUT...I've found that it's really hard to find an AP special needs parenting group. I've tried hanging out with other special needs mamas locally, but they're so very mainstream, so I don't fit in there. And trust me, I can get along with mainstream mamas just fine usually, but when you add in the special needs, I just found it really frustrating.
So I prefer to hang out with the AP groups locally for general parenting support and friendship, then I come to MDC for my special needs support.

Hi! As someone else suggested, you should post in the Finding Your Tribe subforum that includes Iowa. Also, two days isn't very long to wait for a reply, especially from parents of kids with special needs. Please be patient!

Thanks, I'll ask her therapists and look into it. It's just so hard finding someone who somewhat understands. I'm only 21 and none of my friends are even thinking about having kids yet, and even if they did they woudln't get it.
