same thoughts here....

Unmatched chairs may look trendy at the moment, but matched ones look nice too and less cluttered...if you have matched ones it seems more logical to me to keep them rather than spending time and money getting odd ones.

But then, that's probably a question of personal taste. I liked the photo and thought it looked "cool". It didn't look "fabulous" to me, though. Personally, a nicely set table gives me a sense of calm while I perceive mismatched plates, chairs etc. as "too much to process".
So, I'm not sure whether this comment was helpful to you! Maybe it just boils down to some sort of compromise between you and your husband. After all, there is no "right" way to match or mismatch chairs (just as you don't have to make a religion out of which way to fold - or not to fold - your towels) but you have to do what fits your needs.

If you don't love the chairs then let them go. I like the look of all matching chairs that contrast the table (ie. ivory chairs and a medium wood stained table).

The picture does look cool!

But I think in general I prefer matching chairs - and if you already have the chairs and have the means to move them then I think that's what I'd do. It's just down to personal preference...

Update

Well, ladies, thanks for all the opinions. After measuring and discussing how much we have to bring, we have decided to rent a trailer. And it turns out the chairs don't even really make the difference. Our futon and recliner do, though, and DH has decided he wants to bring those. So we are getting a trailer. I'm still going to try to convince DH we only need four, but I'm not going to try too hard. I guess we'll somehow find places for the ones that don't fit around the table.

Now I don't get to exercise my crazy-lady super-packing skillz! I was kinda looking forward to that. With the trailer we'll have plenty of space.

mismatched is fine with me, but I wouldn't get rid of them. if it's so important to him, I would keep them all, and just find another use for the unneeded 2... like, to use w your sewing maching or... in the living room, cpu room, to stack crap on in your closet

Yes it does, but in all honesty I think that has a lot more to do with the background wallpaper, pictures and the chandelier..without those the room could possibly look just plain messy and cluttered.

I'm glad you've come to some resolution over this table and chairs debate.

I know for me, when I moved out I swore I'd never have matching table and chairs. Its just a personal thing. That said, I was just given three matching white wooden chairs and I have two others that match too (red ones)... I hate having matching chairs so much that the white ones are getting painted different colours! I wouldn't have taken them at all except that they're really cute and are the perfect size for my place. Thankfully my table is orange so truthfully, nothing matches!

All the best,
-Dee
