I use disposables, and for swimming, i use the Little Swimmers swim pants by Huggies. You can get them at walmart, and depending on your babies size, the Smalls fit arouns 16 pounds. DO NOT put the regular diapers in the pool!!! What happens to them is HORRIFYING.
The swimpants are really only to catch the poop if they go while in the water. Just an FYI, so maybe you could buy some cloth diapers and put those on him til hes bigger?
We used a cloth swim diaper when DS was little (well, we still do!) As pp said, it's just to catch the poo, so if you are swimming a lot, it might be the more economical solution. I think ours cost $10 and was a Bummis. It fit him to about 15 pounds, and after that we just used a diaper cover with gussets. I don't remember DS ever pooping in the pool, but we didn't start him that young.
you'll have to get a special swim diaper - non absorbant. it has to contain the poop but not absorb the pool i used little swimmers by huggies but they also make reusable swim diapers.
The little swimmers are such a waste of money & garbage in the landfill imo. For less than the cost of one package you can buy a cloth swim diaper & it'll last for as long as you need it. Some people even use just a diaper cover. As long as it will hold in poop it'll work. Yeah & you don't want anything with any absorbancy - it'll just soak up the pool.
Thank you for the replies concerning the pool diapers.
I was hoping to get confirmation that I do not need to buy special disposable diapers for my son to enjoy the pool. I love you ladies and how you support my way of parenting my precious son.
I was also able to find swim diapers at Target, but it was very hit-and-miss. Be careful, because they also sell swimsuits designed to go over disposable swim diapers, and will not contain a mess.
I also have seen swim trunks with a diaper-liner at Carters, up to 24 month size (that's DS's current swim outfit).
I agree that 2 is plenty. You can also find suits at www.myswimbaby.com. They are more expensive than Target, but cheaper than sposies.
I always just used an old Fuzzi Bunz diaper (WITHOUT the insert!). It holds in poo. You might have to size *down* a size for that though since you're not using any absorbancy I used a size small diaper for FOREVER with dd3!
