My 2.5 yo has had, since December or so, this weird rash type thing, very localized in strange places.
First he had a patch on the side of one knee. It looked red and raised and bumpy and dry, and he didn't like when I poked at it. Can't tell whether it hurts or itches or what.
Then he developed one on his shoulderblade. This one came up in almost like a boil and clearly hurt.
Then he had one on the side of one elbow, which looked like the one on his knee.
The shoulderblade one went away when I kept it covered with a band-aid for a few days.
The elbow one went away on its own.
The knee one goes away pretty much completely if I keep it covered with a band-aid .. but comes back whenever it's left uncovered.
Now there's a second patch below the knee one, and it's been getting progressively worse and now looks red and angry, just like the one above it does when it's left uncovered.
I have no idea what to make of this. It doesn't seem to matter whether he's got no clothes on the area, cotton clothes only on the area, etc. etc. Haven't changed detergents or anything. If it goes away when covered I'd assume a contact thing but it's so localized.
He has some food sensitivities (dairy certainly, possibly other things) but this week is his first week gluten-free as well and the second knee patch has gotten worse. No idea what the one above it looks like as it's covered. No sign of more patches anywhere else -- just the side of that one knee. His food sensitivities (as far as I know) have only gotten better with time -- they were pretty bad when he was tiny -- so if this were food-related I don't get the sudden onset in December, when it seems to just be dairy that bothers him .. which he never has.
Any ideas? I'm pretty stumped.
