weight gain.. - Page 2

Just1More - Ah! it sounds like yours is related to low blood sugar. That probably wouldn't help for me, although I generally don't have any symptoms except dizziness on standing as long as I'm not getting too anemic as well. Good to hear it is working - thanks for sharing!

What makes you think mine is related to low blood sugar? I have experimented with that lots, but how I feel is irrelevant to how much/little sugar I eat. Or how frequently. The eating frequently is not to help me feel better, but to prevent me from feeling bad when I have to digest a large amount at once. Was there anything else that made you think that? (I am not trying to aruge, genuinely curious.)

Just1More - There is a natural electrolyte drink out there that you can find at some health food stores. It's called Recharge.

Oh well your pattern of eating sounds like you are deliberately avoiding both highs and lows. "Blood sugar" isn't really about eating certain amounts of sugar during the day but glucose in the blood sugar from any foods you consume. Steady combinations of fats, carbs, and proteins in moderate amounts will keep the blood sugar stable. Almonds are well known to be good snacks for folks with blood sugar issues (Which I suffered from for years, btw, before learning that I'm gluten intolerant)

AFAIK, floradix will only help "low blood pressure" symptoms if you have iron deficient anemia - which is super common in pregnancy and not a bad idea to take if it helps.

Both low blood sugar and anemia mimic or aggravate the symptoms of low blood pressure.

Right...I agree about blood sugar and how it gets high and low, and how to keep it stable. For me it isn't about whether or not it goes high or low, but that if I eat a large meal, the symptoms of the blood pressure issue are really bad. If I eat small amounts all day, I can get in enough food without stressing my body by digesting.

I've had trouble with this before when I was younger, and not pregnant. I'm certain my iron IS low, both then and now. I have several enormous bruises that came from tiny bumps. (Which are rapidly healing, btw).

Anyway, good luck trying to figure out a way to help yourself, too. Just trying to explain (not argue ) that I do understand blood sugar, and this isn't that.

I lost 9 pounds while I was sick at the beginning of pregnancy. I have gained 2 since then. That puts me at -7. Last week I found my appetite for the first time. I'm overweight, so it's just fine with the doctor so far.

I was about 5 pounds over my normal weight at the beginning of this pregnancy. I lost 2-3 pounds in the first trimester despite not being really sick. Now, at almost 23 weeks, I'm about 10 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight, 15 pounds more than normal. With DD, I'd gained at least 20 pounds by this point. I gained 45 pounds overall with her, but it was gone (with no particular effort on my part) by 9 months postpartum. A good solid 15 pounds of it was water weight put on in the last couple of months, too, which I sweated out within a week or two of giving birth.

I think I would kind of like to gain less in this pregnancy, but I'm trying not to stress about it (or about gaining too little!)

I'm 26 weeks and I keep teetering between -5 and 0lbs gained. Definitely started out overweight. I seem to have zero appetite this pregnancy, but baby is growing and so is my belly. Last night I had a mom keep commenting about how big I was and how I have soooo far to go. Um yeah, I can't help how my belly grows. Plus this is the 7th baby I've grown and maybe if I hadn't had 2 sets of twins things wouldn't be so stretched out lol

Another momma that lost some weight and now has really packed it on!! I about cried at my last appointment. I've gained 18 pounds at 25 weeks. Oh well......

FWIW, water follows solutes... so eating lots, frequently, means retaining more water. More water = higher blood pressure.

That's the connection, not blood sugar

24 wk appt yesterday was 12 lbs total. Well, the first time I was weighed I was already 10 wks- I honestly don't know what my pre-pregnancy weight was, but considering how nauseous and sick I was for the 1st tri, I think it's safe to say it wasn't much less than that. I know my arms and thighs will start to thicken up soon.

I started out slow, but i've gained about 9lbs in the past 4 weeks! if you count from my lowest point at about 5 weeks i have gained 25lbs! its not really swelling either, some of it is.. but for the most part it has been steady and does not fluctuate much .. compared to my other pregnancies.. i'm about 4-6 weeks ahead in weight gain but i started out lighter this time, so really - i've just caught up in actual weight...
Yup! I was at 22 pounds last Sunday (24 weeks) I have been gaining about a pound a week since since conception! I was just a little worried because I hear that most women do not start gaining until the 2nd trimester and that in the 3rd it really picks up. But my body is doing what my baby needs it to do, and the more I read here on MDC the less stressfull the weight gain is to me.
