Resources for someone starting the journey

Apologies in advance. I realize that there is a list of books and resources, but was rather overwhelmed by the variety. My husband and I (a mixed black and white couple) have two birth children of our own, and are looking to adopt through a state adoption out of foster care; preferable a child or sibling group under five years of age. Can anyone recommend books or on-line resources that would be appropriate or helpful to our situation? Our children are both under two years old right now, but we would like to learn as much as possible so that we will be better prepared in a couple of years when we are ready to start the process.

Thank you,
Liz

I've been fostering four years and am finishing up my second foster adoption. I haven't found a book that's particularly useful for me (although, there may be some in the resource sticky.) There are lots of articles on the fosterparent.com website and their message board is a good place to learn from experienced foster and foster/adoptive families.

Did you mean fosterparents.com? fosterparent.com is under construction. fosterparents.com says that it is the Home to the #1 Online Training Program related to working with at risk children. Does that sound right?

Yep, it was a typo. Sorry about that. The site has a lot of articles that can be used for licensing training hours but are also good reads. But, the message board is really helpful. Not crunchy, or always meeting my parenting style, but still very useful.
