Totally weird letter in the mail today...

I got a weirdo letter from kiddo's pediatrician's office today.

It basically said that my kid hasn't had the MMR vax that is recommended at 18 months of age. (Right, that's the idea...) It went on to say that there have been 2 confirmed cases of measles in our area in the past 2 months.

Has anyone else ever gotten a letter like this? I wonder if I should call the office or just ignore it. I'm thinking ignore.

I feel like big brother is watching me all of a sudden! I know that is silly, I'm just neurotic when I'm pregnant

Personally I'd ignore it, its basically a *cya letter* in case you might be thinking of getting the mmr vax and just havent you cant later say no one told me. I know everytime the kids are due for something they tell me if its currently in our area or not and so initial that they have let me know about the *threat* in our area.

Um, Big Brother? Its the doctors office, who have all your childs medical records, inclusing a lack of an MMR, and they just want to inform you that your child poses a higher then normal likelyhood () of contracting measles.

Ignore.

Probably they're also worried about liability. "You KNEW there were measles in the area and you never warned me???" <----That kind of thing. Dumb, but people are so sue-happy these days....

Yeah, I figured it was a CYA thing so that I couldn't go in saying "you didn't tell me!" if he got sick.

I know the big brother thing is silly, I'm just a weirdo pregnant lady.

Where are you at? I'm in Alberta Canada and I just got a letter yesterday from DS's school about a measles outbreak. Just a general letter sent to everyone. But DH got a call from the health unit telling us that DS1 hasn't gotten the second MMR that he was supposed to get before starting school. He is 8 now and in grade 2. DS2 was never vaccinated at all and born at home so they don't even have him in their records.

It's all because of the outbreak. I guess that all the international visitors during the Olympics in Vancouver sparked and outbreak and now it's spread to our province.
