Do these sibling names go together? - Page 2

I like both names, and agree that Devon works for a girl or a boy.

That said, I don't think they go well together. That OP is asking the question means she's unsure too, so I guess the real question is: do you care?

Someone said it above, but once the kids are school-aged, it won't matter whether their names go well together. Does your DH's name go well with yours?

I say buck the trend of matching names and choose what you like best.

I'm actually thinking about changing Devon to something else now...

aw mama, don't feel bad! i'd hate for you to change a name based solely on what other MDCers think, if you really love it. that's the problem with having naming threads...sometimes you hear things that you might not need to. i don't think most of the posters disliked devon as a name, just thought that is was a very different type of name than georgia. personally, i like names not to be matchy-matchy, but to flow together- i.e. my first daughter is Louisa, so I'm looking for another old-fashioned, feminine name (maybe Vera or Marilyn).

if you like it, keep it! you're the one who'll be hearing it, not us!

It's just that we had SUCH a hard time naming this little girl. With my DD, it was easy peasy - I knew all along who she would be and she is TOTALLY Georgia Mae. With this one, we sweated over it a billion times because my DH and I don't like the same types of names AT ALL. Of course, I try to convince him that she who owns the scars of motherhood should have the final say, but that never goes over very well...lol. So we were set on Charlotte but for some reason it didn't "feel" right. Then he mentioned Devon - which is a name I'd always loved but didn't bring up because he said he didn't like it - and when he mentioned it, it was like a light bulb went on and it immediately felt right. But now... I guess I'm just second guessing it because I don't want ppl to think she's a boy before meeting her. I've never known a male or female Devon but have always liked it for a girl. Now I'm thinking I should make another short list of names just in case...

I really do appreciate the opinions, honestly - I guess it's just frustrating because it was SO hard finding a name DH and I both agreed to... and it happened to be one I loved... So to hear anything negative makes me think I have to rethink my decision and go through all of that with him again...lol.

I think they go together quite well. Sounding them out loud, there isn't that feeling of them being completely polar opposite. It just flows well and sounds nice when they're said together.

Honestly, someone out there will have something negative to say about anything one can come up with naming-wise. If YOU'RE happy with it and DH is happy with it, that's what matters, right?

That is tough! I hate arguing over names. I'm not sure why I think of Devon as being for a boy- maybe because I've only known male Devons? My pet peeve with gender-neutral names is that for work (military) I have to email tons of people, and gender-neutral names make it hard for me- I never know whether to write "sir" or "ma'am," and things get awkward. I just visited the social security website, and Devon (for a boy) has been as high as #133 (in 2000), it's #277 now. For girls, it's been as high as #658 (2000) and is off the list (higher than 1000) now. If it makes you feel better, my two baby names haven't broken 1000 for 10 years, which means they're even less heard.
