Old Tshirts what to do?

I have some old Tshirts that I need to get rid of. I seriously need to make some space. What else could I use them for other than scraps of cloth for cleaning.

It's really easy to make a tote bag out of an old t-shirt. I have several of them in different sizes and they really come in handy for groceries and things. Here's a link that tells how to do it:

my sister's friend has made her several quilts from her old tee-shirt (like bands or college stuff)... she cuts the logos off the front into various sized squares. i've been saving old teeshirts to do this, but haven't started the project yet

My plan is to use them to make a rag quilt: http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa.../rag_quilt.htm

(with t-shirts you'd have bigger blocks than shown in the example because you'd want to preserve the images on the fronts and/or backs, probably?)

Oh yeah I have been looking at that too. Thanks for the link.

I've been thinking of the totes for a couple where I want to save the image.

If they are just old, stained or worn out though (I have a growing pile and plenty of rags), what about rag rugs? I'm thinking of doing a couple small ones for outside the tub and shower and in front of the kitchen sink

Yup, I made DS some rockin' baby pants out of old T-shirts. The tie-dyed pants were my favorite .

Diapers. There is a no sew tut out there where you use them as prefolds, or they make the best fitteds! Soft, stretchy and absorbant!

ditto on the baby/kid pants

A friend made me some of the bags from tshirts and I LOVE them. They're strong and stretchy and I can stuff them in my bag if I need to.

Well, I'd say: Get rid of them. Don't spend a bunch of time finding a use for them, one that will create _new_ objects that will take up space in your house.

Unless you actually _need_ a lot of tote bags, or a new quilt, or whatever, and unless you have lots of space to store those things, and lots of spare time to create those things, then I'd say throw 'em out or give 'em away.

It depends on what mode I'm in. If I'm in super crafty mode and have the time I love all the suggestions here and have done the Tshirt bag. But right now I'm in the mode for no time for crafting (except crocheting). So i just gave a huge pile of Tshirts away to goodwill. It was hard to part with them knowing I could do something with them if I really wanted to. But right now, I really desire the space and organization more than anything. It felt really good to let them go. And there will always be more Tshirts!

one of the best uses i've heard of is to tear them into strips -- still attached to the "collar" of the shirt; then when you are gardening your tomatoes, you can tear off a strip to tie up a heavy "branch" of the tomato to the tomato cage.
