Help with infected chickenpox

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've searched through the archives and didn't see anything helpful.
My son is 4 and on day 2 of chickenpox. He's acting fine, but there are 2 spots (1 behind the knee and 1 on the cheek) that I'm quite certain are infected. The skin surrounding each spot is bright red and one of the spots has a little red dot in the middle. Both of them are puss colored, but I'm assuming that's normal. He says they're both REALLY sore. I can touch the other spots with no problem but at the smallest graze of those he's pulling back and saying it hurts. So what can I do and how serious can this get? Do you have any ideas for something I can put on them here at home or something I can give him to help him fight this? TIA!

I don't want to scare you, but I've heard of some kids getting secondary MRSA infections with the pox. That can obviously be pretty serious. I'd probably put a call into your regular health care provider. I hope your little one feels better soon. Infected sores aren't something I'd want to mess around with.

That sounds very much like possible staph. I'd take him in and get some bactroban cream. You don't want to be one of the chicken pox complications--better to get this treated at the outset.
