What name goes with the NN "Callie/Kallie"

I love the nickname Callie or Kallie, but I cannot think of what name goes with it. I love the name Calliope, but when I suggested it, DH, who is more traditional in his name choices, he looked at me like I had grown a second head.

So are there any traditional names that have the nickname of Callie/Kallie?

Caroline.

A friend just named her daughter Calais, after the French city.

From my name book, it says Callie is from Caltha (meaning marigold or yellow flower). I think Calandra (greek for lark) or Calida (Spanish for loving) or Calliope (Greek, beautiful face) could also be Callies.

Kalie is Greek, from Kalyca (Greek for rosebud). Other Kal- names would be:

Kalama
Kalee
Kaleigh
Kalica
Kalila
Kalinda
Kalyn

Interesting to look through these...will come back later with another name book

Calista, Callan, Caroline

I just read you were looking for more traditional names. I'll drop the Greek theme.

Callie...

Calista/Callista
Calpurnia
Caldonia
Calanthe
Calla
Callia
Callasandra
Calissa
Carolyn

Of those, I like Calista and Calla the best.

I have a Greek friend Kallie, her given name is Kaliope, pronounced kol-e-o-pe, the a is soft,

Tho, if you want Callie or Kallie, why not just have that be the whole name instead of it being a nickname?

He's sooooo picky, getting him to look past the 20 most popular baby names is tough. Our other kids are Austin (his birth mom named him solely), Christopher, Matthew, and Sophia.... very common, very traditional. I love Kalyn, Carolyn/Caroline (don't like nn Carol though) and he reminded us we are not Southern?!, I added Kaleigh to my list as well as Kaelyn/Caelyn which I am sure he will nix.

My list right now is quite lengthy of names he hates..... he has no suggestions though, other than he likes the boy names Nicholas and Jackson.

Oh and thank you everyone for your help!! It will give us a good topic of discussion (read: frustration) of names when we have totally different tastes.

Did a quick google search and these came up:

Callena
Callana
Caliopa
Calandria
Calanthia
Calira
Callianne
Callimae
Callibeth
Callaine
Callainey
Callara
Callora
Callaya
Calleah(Cal ee uh)
Callia
Calicia
Callisa
Callita

The idea of doing Calli+name is interesting. Callianne, Callimae, etc. Callianne is actually very pretty.

Callainey (instead of Delainey?) is pretty, too.

Classic, though? Still with Calla, Callia, Calista, Caroline...

I knew a girl just named Kali .. People always assume it is a nickname, but once you get over that, it is certainly easy to pronounce.

Callidora is on our short list.

I have a niece who is called Callie, her full name is Carissa. I also know an older Callie named Clairissa.

Calliope and Calisto have not been mentioned yet. My dd1 is Callie. Not a NN, just her name. In the information I read, Callie is a derivative of the name Caroline, and so is my name

I have a friend whose name was Jessica Leigh *last name*

that brought about jessiCA LEIGH = Callie and because there were SO many Jessicas in our grade, she went by Callie.

So perhaps, if the middle name is flexible to be leigh (or some variant or otherwise starting with that sound) any name ending in CA or KA would also work.

My hubby's the same way. He keeps suggesting what he calls "normal" names... like Lisa, Karen and Michelle. Can you tell he was born in 1967??

I know someone who goes by Callie but her name is Calena.

I named my DD Calliope Jane, it's great because no one else has her name! So... I agree with DH, you should pick a different name hehehe.

What about Callie Mae, or Callie Jo? NOTHING is more southern than sticking a Jo on a name

Wow, apparently he just needed to hear it a few times (I think I have brought it up a dozen times now...?) Calliope is now starting to grow on him, he suggested the Calliope Lynn.

I didn't want to do just Callie because A) I want my babies to have NNs dangit! I am Heather, no way to shorten that! and B) I am a big fan of names for all seasons of life, I want something cute as a kiddo, and more sophisticated as an adult. My daughter is Sophia Elanna, Sophie is a cute name, but not really grown up like Sophia is.

So now that Calliope is growing on hubby, I am scared this baby will be a boy since I never imagined we would be able to have a child with a uncommon name! (boy choices are Jackson, Nicholas, or Nathaniel)
