I'm going to pick my favorite, cradle, even though Sprout nurses terribly in that and we usually do cross-cradle to keep him latched a bit longer. Never mastered side-lying!

I sound like you. I way prefer cradle. She prefers cross cradle. But I like having one hand free.

We do a mix. At first we did football exclusively. Now that her legs are a bunch longer she kicks the back of the couch a lot in football, so we've switched to, well, Boppy hold She lays on the Boppy, I prop the side that her head is on up and she latches. The only problem is that rightie isn't adapting that well. It hurts like a you-know-what on that side so we're constantly adjusting her latch. Half the time I give in and move her to football and just lean forward. And at night we do side-by-side at least once, often twice.

With my ds he'd only nurse in the football hold so it's become my default hold. Rowena likes it. We can do the cradle and side lying hold (the one we use all y night). Rowena caught onto that one really quick.

I've packed in the boppy now and like to sit cross legged on the couch with a pillow under her head in cradle position. She lays her back on my lap. I've tried to get her belly to my belly but she usually rolls to her back.

She'll ocassionally lay on her side when we night nurse, side-laying. It's my favorite way to wake up. Chest to chest with her top hand nestled in my cleavage.

Cradle... side lying when I'm exhausted in the morning but I have to lay on a towel first. Just now I tried nursing in the hammock outside, with no towel or cloth diaper handy, and I literally had ounces just pouring out of her mouth down my side all over in a huge puddle
I know oversupply sounds like a boon but it is such a pain too. Someone please tell me that someday things will even out and I won't have to a. wear a bra with nursing pads 24 hours a day, b. have to tuck a cloth diaper into my bra cup every time we nurse and have another handy to staunch the flow when baby pops off and c. have a right nipple that shoots milk up in an arc, all over the baby's face. Grr!

i never learned how to do anything but cradle i guess. or as aimee put it boppy. and yes i've BF all 3 of these kids and never learned anything else....i just didn't have the time/ability to go to LLL or anything

cradle except the last bedtime drink in the morning. then i usually do side-lying, cause i know i can hand him off to daddy for burping. i'd do more side-lying, and may as he gets older and less gassy (crossing my fingers), but since i have to get up to burp him anyway, i'd rather just sit up to nurse.

HATED football when trying it in the hospital! charlie's first favorite was biological "hold". he preferred to peck around with us tummy to tummy

I like side lying the best b/c I can go back to sleep! DD2 is just getting big enough now to be able to do it a little bit.

During the day, "boppy" hold (love that term!). At night, side lying.

Cross cradle for latching, then switch to cradle for the rest of the session, boppy included. Side lying at night. Had to do football to keep a duct from getting plugged when my
milk came in, but it's not easy when your newborn is a 1/2" shy of 2 ft long!!!

That's actually exactly what we do

I have no idea what this would qualify as, but I like to be reclining with the baby sort of sitting on the side, leaning over my chest to nurse? Sort of a modified football, maybe? I don't know. OH GREAT! I'VE GOT LET DOWN FROM TYPING ABOUT NURSING POSITIONS! THANKS, GUYS!!! THERE GOES ANOTHER SHIRT!

i woke up in the night wondering what the difference is b/n cradle and cross-cradle!

i guess i could look it up but that would be no fun. i'm amused by the thought that cradle is probably the one where you hold/support the baby w/ the opposite hand and arm from the breast they are drinking from.... and cross cradle is the actual natural, cradle the baby in the arm on the side where they are drinking.

i wonder what breastfeeding would be called if it was translated into PC language....

We do the cradle hold sometimes with or without the Brestfriend. I do try side-lying every now and then in the morning but I can't figure out how to position her so she can breathe! I always need to keep my finger by her nose.
I had that issue at first, but I learned to mover her body down a bit, pull her butt in towards me, and tilt her head back a touch. The combo of all three keeps her nose clear!

We both like side lying. We can both sleep that way! haha So this is really how we feed the most. And sometimes if I am lucky, I can do this during the day and then get up once he is asleep...and detach myself a bit! lol

Hamish actually likes cradle the least. I only do that when we are out and about. He just can't seem to fall asleep that way and/or get comfortable enough that way. Its also rare that I am able to hold him in a way that is comfortable for me as well. Seems to only happen when its a must - otherwise, we lay!

(and thats actually the opposite problem for me! - We can breath just fine laying down...but I often have to squish my boob in a bit if we are sitting up and doing it the classic cradle hold way - caues his nose is all squished into my boob then!) ...I don't know what it is. His size - yet newborn maturity in body/head control/etc makes it very awkward for both of us! I am not exactly a large person myself either! lol

This is us. I find it helps to feed on one side for ages. I pretty much only use two boobs a day lmao... I feed one side for like 3-4 feeds and then swap ...by then the other boob is pretty full and ready for use too! lol

But - I still go through many breastpads a day AND I sleep on a disposable bed time mat with a fleece planet over it. They stay pretty secure and in place as I tuck half of it up under my pillows. I really only have to rearrange/straighted it out before I go to bed.

Will it stop - slow down? I have no idea. I kept my milk for YEARS after I was no longer pumping for DS. Eventually the leaking did stop. This time around ...no idea! lol Will just have to wait and see and hope! lol

Thanks, I will have to try that. It's scary because sometimes I nod off and she pulls off suddenly gasping for air.
