Wool covers and babywearing

I've really gotten into crochetting diaper covers lately... they are just so cute! I'm on my 3rd one in a week! But I just got to thinking, I really like to babywear a lot when I am out of the house. Is wool a problem with babywearing? Does it tend to cause compression leaks? We didn't use any wool with DS, so I am clueless here. I was thinking I should buy a few PUL covers for out and about and maybe stick to the wool at home? But then the wool is so cute that I've love for the new LO to get to wear it out and show it off.

I think it depends on the cover. I have a few wool covers that don't do well with babywearing and then I have two that I never have an issue with. I think it may have to do with the thickness of the wool and of course it being well lanolized. I, personally, like to have PUL covers on hand for 'just in case' since they are more leak proof than wool.

It's never really been a problem for us. We use wool almost exclusively, and the only one that leaking has been an issue was crocheted fairly loosely and has large holes between the stitches. If you're SC or HDC it shouldn't be too big a worry - just be aware of the stretch needed in the gusset. These shorts were DC'd, which leaves a lot bigger holes.

We do it all the time without a problem. The only leak was with a recycled sweater longie. It was pretty thin... Everything else holds up great. (some of which is recycled too, just that pair didn't work out well)

I think it depends on your diaper/wool combo. We use wool exclusively & I have worn my baby everyday for the last 20months without any problems. I agree that looser knit shorties/longies may contribute to leaks...so choose wool flannel or tighter knits for babywearing & make sure your diaper is doing its end of the job!

It depends on the diaper and cover. You'd have to do a doubler down the wet zone and have a pretty dense cover. I have definitely gotten wet.

as long as you have a good absorbant diaper under the cover you should be fine.

I've also had mixed experiences. Definitely gotten damp through wool while babywearing, but some wool is pretty bullet-proof. A tight, thick cover that's well-lanolized shouldn't be a problem, especially on a smaller baby who's just not that heavy.
