Preventative abx for Lyme?

Man, I am posting a lot in here. Sigh.

My 2.5 yo was bitten by a deer tick the other day. It couldn't've been on him for more than 10 hours or so before we had it removed. I had Lyme a few years ago (caught in time to kill with abx) so I'll probably be sort of mildly panicking in the 4 weeks (!) it takes for the blood test to be accurate.

Someone we know apparently does preventative abx for Lyme -- whenever he gets a bite he takes a dose or two of doxycycline to nip the bacterium in the bud before it spreads.

Anyone do this with toddlers? I'm just nervous about killing off his gut flora -- right after he finally started taking probiotics!

Also I heard elsewhere that 1-2 doses isn't enough to kill the bacterium, only to make it adapt. I don't know. When I had Lyme before the blood test came back they gave me a shot of abx and I had huge huge dieoff that same night. Then again the infection was pretty advanced in me.

Thoughts?

I don't have any information about using abx for this reason. I wouldn't do it.
Whenever we have a tick bite, I give homeopathy. I give them a dose of ledum at 30c.

I also would be concerned about your toddler's gut flora.
