Ulcer on gums and swollen lymph node

Any ideas what might be going on?

Several years ago, I got a sore on my gums. One sore way back on the top of my gums where my wisdom teeth used to be. It caused a lot of pain and caused the lymph node under my chin to swell and get painful. It went away after about a week.

I went to the dentist, he had no idea.

Well, over the years, it's randomly happened again. Exact same spot, exact same symptoms - very sore area on gum - red and inflamed and then turning into a small broken area - and large, swollen lymph node under my chin.

I haven't had it in a couple years and then out of the blue it started again a few days ago. It's so painful!

Anyone have any idea what this might be? I thought canker sore but, it doesn't make sense that it's in the exact same spot every single time. I never get canker sores anywhere else in my mouth and when this happens, it's in the exact same spot, exact same symptoms.

Also, any thoughts on what I can do? I've been swishing with peroxide and salt water but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Just this morning I swished with GSE and drank 15 drops in some water.

This hurts like crazy - any other ideas on what I can do?

Could something be irritating that spot? Is the gum pressing on the closest tooth that's back there? Is the tooth intact and free of decay? Can you ask your partner if you grind your teeth in your sleep? My DH has a chronically irritated spot on his gum, where he has a misaligned tooth, and that's how it happens with him. The gum gets irritated, then infected. The swollen lymph node is just your body dealing with infection; it's natural when something is infected that the nearby lymph nodes get swollen.

Thank you for your thoughts!

I ended up calling my dentist and he had me come in. He has no idea what it is. Says it's not a cancer sore but, is clearly inflamed. He says it's not infected though. He thinks maybe there is a microscopic piece of bone from when I had my wisdom teeth out that might be in there and occasionally flaring up and irritating the spot??? But, he says he's just guessing.

So, he gave me a RX for a mouthwash to help with the pain and inflammation. Hopefully it helps!
