Preventing heat rash/chafing in the hot hot summer...?

any suggestions to prevent my most hated Summer skirt-wearing side effect??

It's getting close to the time when we have 80%-95% humidity and high 80s to 90s temps. I have lots of skirts that will work for maternity and be much more comfortable to wear to work than the capris and pants that will be too hot!

But, being a little fluffier, well, I can get some heat rash on my thighs. it's not comfortable, and if I wear a skirt 2 days in a row- forget it! Baby powder works for a little while, but within an hour or two is no longer effective. also, not very friendly with a black skirt, so reapplying in the office bathroom could get ugly.

thoughts? what works? what have you heard works but havent tried? would a good oil be a better solution than something that would dry out the area? (or would this just make it look like i sat on my salad on the way to work?!)

There's an actual anti-chafing cream that works really well. I used to find it near the feminine hygiene products. I think it was made by Monistat. If you go to Amazon, you can search on anti-chafing cream and I'm sure a few will show up.

I also used to wear bike shorts...or buy these split skirt slips. No idea if they come in pregnancy sizes though.

I don't have any suggestions for you Liz, but I feel for you and couldn't read and not comment. Being in my 8th month now, with the past days in the 80s and 90s that we've had where I'm located, I couldn't imagine continuing PG until August! UGH. Sweaty times. I hope you have air conditioning at home!

My feet are so puffy. Its just amusing. Time to purchase some nice looking flip flops for the next 4 weeks.

Being a big girl, I'm had this problem for many years, and I'm thrilled to tell you there's a solution... it's called BodyGlide. It looks like a deodorant stick, and you just swipe it on to the potential chafing places and it works fantastically all day long with just the one application, even in hot, sweaty weather. It's not greasy-feeling, won't stain your clothes, one package lasts a really long time. It's made for runners, so you can find it in most sporting goods stores and REI stores, or buy from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/BodyGlide-Anti.../dp/B001FSL8MA Just read the reviews, this stuff's a godsend! I know I probably sound like a commercial, but seriously, this stuff changed my life!

I use anti persperant on my thighs although I have used the monistate anti chafing cream and it works great too.

Also there is this company called slumber parties that makes a spray that works wonders called coochy protection spray, http://www.slumberparties.com/checko...l.aspx?ID=1184

I like wearing bike shorts. As long as they're snug, not too long, and are either flesh-toned or match your skirt color, you're good to go!

BodyGlide works great! They sell it in a regular deodorant size and also in a small travel size. I keep the small one in my purse all summer in case I need to reapply. One application lasts a long time, though!

Last pregnancy, I had chafing issues even though it was winter! BodyGlide only worked OK for me - I didn't like the way it felt. I did go out and buy some cotton boy-short type underwear, and that did the trick! (Hmm, wonder if I still have those??)

body glide!! I'll be out and about this weekend, and will add it to the list. while the biker shorts sound like they'd work really well too, adding another layer under the skirt might make me SOSOOOO hot in the mid- to late-summer. the humidity is seriously torturous at times. could work in spring though!

I highly prefer skirts over jeans and have since I started wearing maternity clothes, less than halfway through my pregnancy (32 weeks now). Best thing I ever did was buy the split leg slip mentioned above. I bought it at Sears, the biggest size they had and just wear it pulled up as much as I can. Bike shorts sound just as constricting as jeans do to me. The thought of anything even remotely tight around my middle makes me miserable. I even bought A TON of over the knee socks to wear with my skirts rather than tights (I usually wear long skirts).

Sounds weird, but the only thing that worked for me when I was carrying DD#1 was diaper rash cream. I put in on the chaffed areas and it would help them heal and help keep the chafing from getting worse. Of course, it is white, so you have to be careful about what shows, but it worked. I use an anti-chafe stick for cycling, but never thought of that for walking/rubbing thighs issues. I'll have to try it this summer since I, too, will be big, hot, and itchy this summer like my OP DDC sister.
