Diapers are for Losers!!

Or at least that's the phase DD is going through...

She's learned how to remove her diapers and just refuses to let me put them on her. The problem is, is that she still has a number of misses per day! Fortunately, we haven't really had any accidents but it's frustrating when we need to leave the house.

We've been doing pretty laid back EC. Since she was 9 months she always goes potty immediately after walking up in the morning and naps and we very rarely miss a poop but besides that I've relied entirely on her telling me when she has to go potty so some days we only have 2 catches other days many more. I get that now is probably a good time to maybe push it a little more (since I don't want pee all over the floors) BUT she's very resistant to being put on the potty when it's not on her terms (and refuses almost 99% of the time if DH tries to put her there). She was with our babysitter this morning and refused a diaper the whole morning but only peed once in her potty (she was with her for 3 hours!). If I do manage to get a diaper on her she almost always tells me right after she peed or when she needs to but we don't always make it to the potty in time (ironic since our apt is REALLY small).

Do you have a little potty that she can get on herself? I would start with that...make sure it's in a prominent place and have her either naked/in a dress/in pants she can pull down herself. Every time she pees on the floor, remind her that "pee goes in the potty" and encourage her to sit on the potty if she's willing. And keep reminding/asking her, gently, although it sounds like she definitely wants you to back off in that area so be careful with it so she doesn't get annoyed with you.

And get her around other EC/potty trained kids if you can! Watching bigger kids use the potty might be motivating for her.

I also finally gave in and bought a potty training DVD for my daughter. She's older (over two), but she did something similar where she just refused any reminding and never wanted to go to the potty unless it was on her own terms. I found a DVD that had real kids in it using the potty, not cartoons, and it has helped. I feel like for her the DVD was helpful because it was someone else (besides mom) talking about using the potty.

Also, maybe she'd be okay with wearing trainers that pull up and down? My DD sometimes prefers her EC store/daisy doodle trainers "underwear" because they're prettier than the cheap actual underwear I got from target. She had one pair with monkeys on them that she wanted to wear every day till she outgrew them...

We used pull up waterproof trainers at that stage as well!

And isn't it lovely to be considering other options and to have other options during this very common stage of not wanting to wear diapers? I loved it that we never had to struggle about diapers. Maybe once or twice at night, but generally, not. One of the many awesome features of EC!
