The 6th book in the Clan of The Cave Bear series by Auel *p3 sneak peak* (possible spoilers inside) - Page 2

Most people do see #5 as a disappointment. For instance the birth of Jonayla wasnt made into the big deal I thought it should have been along with the repetitive "someday" thing.

I worry this book will leave us hanging about Ayla and Jon and there are so many questions I want closure to. So yeah I have mixed feelings as well.

I feel the same. I loved the first four books. I still haven't made it through the 5th book. I recently found it, years after starting it, with the bookmark still about halfway through. Maybe I'll try again. I hope the 6th book is better though.

I read the series quite a few years ago. Loved the first 4 books and was so excited for the 5th but then never finished it. Maybe I'll pick it up again and read the 6th when it's out. My mom and her husband really liked the series, too, so I've let my mom know the 6th is coming!

I actually enjoyed book 5 a bit better than book 4, to be honest. The story in book 4 was reasonably good, and I did enjoy some aspects of the travel. But, between the constant descriptions of the landscape and the constant descriptions of sex, and the way Jondalar's character kept annoying me (the whole "I love Ayla more than anything, and I would be devastated if anything happened to her, but I want to get home, and I want to make the glacier crossing even though I know it puts our lives at risk and she's sick of traveling, because I am all about me" bit), I did feel a bit let down.

If anybody can't tell, Jondalar isn't my favourite character in literature...

I'm actually in the middle of book #4 right now. I am getting really irritated with Jon being a self-absorbed brat. I'm really sick of her showing off her incredible knowledge of migration patterns of animals during the Ice Age period. (Seriously lady, how many flippin times do you have to explain that this abundance could only happen because of the unique weather patterns... AHHHHHHH.) And I'm pregnant with zero libido so the sex scenes are irritating the crud out of me. I think I only read the rest of the series because in my heart I just can't accept that the first three books are so good and it gets as bad as it does. I had been debating with myself if I am going to reread #5 but if #6 is coming out I will wait a few months before reading it.

*cross fingers*

I'm rereading them...I never realized how much suspension of disbelief is required for these!

How do you mean? It's been ages since I read them...

Wow, it has been such a long time since I've read any of her books. I don't even know if I read book 4 and 5.
Suppose I'll have to search to see what those titles are.

Most of the books can be found on ebay, half.com or amazon for a really cheap price. I know my local book trading place has many copies sitting on the shelf. I actually had to replace 2 of mine they where falling apart

I'm a big fan of the series but I cracked up when I found out there's actually a TRAILER for this book!  :LOL  http://www.youtube.com/user/crownbooks?feature=mhum#p/a/u/0/2Nw0RZ8yzK0

The majority of people who love the series consider the 5th book to be a big disappointment. I am listening to it right now and over the years it has grown on me more though it will never be a favorite. I am reallllly looking forward to this new book and have really high hopes for it but I am worried as well how things will end. I know how I really want things to go but you just never know.

The Valley of Horses will always be my fav. then Plains of Passage I havnt listened to Clan of the Cave Bear in a long time but plan to start it next. I listen to the books every single night while I drift off to sleep. I have for years and have yet to get tired of the books.

I havnt read the book versions in a very long time but with the cd's I dont really need to lol.gif:

My biggest problem with her is she is so darned repetitive. She needs a very good editor. I just reread the whole series in anticipation of the new book. And yeah I was flipping pages past the stuff trying to get to the actual story.

I do love how descriptive she is but the repeating of certain things is irritating. Plus there are a few mistakes she made about some major scenes in other books that make me nuts. Like when Ayla discovered fire with the fuzz getting a burn mark then in another book she says it burned her leg and the one where she dosnt know what an onager is in POP yet she killed and ate one in VOH. I mean I can understand slight oppsies but to make them with major parts of the story not so much.

But then I guess taking so long to write like she does her memory fades over time lol.gif but like you said a good editor would help with that as well since she/he could read the old books then remind her so she could fix it if she screws up in the new one.

I really hope that Brokaval dosnt do something horrible to Ayla like hurt Jondalar or one of the animals I fear that she will write in the deaths of the animals and if she does it will ruin the whole book for me. I can handle them getting hurt like Wolf did but not their deaths.

I saw a spear thrower (atl atl) at the kids museum here and it really is a neat invention.

How would you guys like to see the series end?  For  Ayla, I'd like to see her as the wise, experienced leader of her clan.  I'd love it if they "fast forwarded" at the very end into modern day and had one of Ayla's ancestors perhaps as an archeaologist discovering about her past - I think that would be cool

That would be very cool. I would also be OK with Ayla sitting next to Jondalar around a big fire talking to all her decedents about their journey. With a field of domesticated horses roaming behind them and dogs/wolves all around.

I also want Ayla to have a vision where she and Durk actually communicate so she finally has closure with that part of her life. It would be cool to see Durk as a Mogur.
