its just a theory... that the side that faces outward more develops into the stronger handedness. As I said, no scientific backing for it but its a theory by people that study handedness.

I was (and I guess, still am) wary of routine ultrasounds because of a number of reasons and also because I WANT to trust my body.

So with my last pregnancy I decided not to get the 2nd trimester screening but it nagged at me and bugged me and I had constantly feeling that something was 'off' about my pregnancy and I was worried that it could prove dangerous in the circumstances of my homebirth. I had dreams about anencephaly and spina bifida.

I ended up getting a screen at 39w5d because I couldn't stop thinking about it- and everything was fine.

This time I plan to have the 18 week screen. I still wish I didn't need it for mental security but I guess I do.

I had 2 u/s with my first two, and no u/s with my new baby. I went back and forth - I am AMA (all of 36! ) Although this last year was more challenging due to external stressors, it was my least stressful pg. I chose to not have the u/s, AFP, amnio, GTT, GBS swab, VEs... pretty much anything. If we have any more babies, I will do the same again... the testing I had with ds and dd1 caused more stress than it took away.

Do what makes you the most peaceful.

FYI, just wanted to let you know that my level 2 ultrasound took a max of 30 minutes, and you could shave a few minutes off the end where she tried to get a 3d image of the face for us. If you try to get the baby in a comfy position -- hopefully not wedged down really far in your pelvis - it would go faster. The tech was really quick... also if you tell her not to explain anything to you, she could have gone even faster.
