Desserts in a jar!

I am giving very serious consideration to doing an assortment of these in lieu of an actual cake for my wedding.

I don't want to shell out mega-bucks for my wedding cake, but don't have the skills to make one myself. I am not a fan of cupcakes. But cupcakes in a jar? Cheesecake in a jar? Pie in a jar?? Too cute!!

I saw a similar, heck exact, idea on Unwrapped last night. I agree, so cute! And much easier to eat if you're wearing nice clothes than a cupcake IMO since you can use a spoon or fork instead of taking a bite and hoping it doesn't all crumble down the front of you.

If you still want the look of a tall wedding cake you could build a tier system to arrange them on.

I love the pies in a jar, I am so making some this summer and fall, and stashing the freezer FULL of tiny summer fruit pies.

A pretty nice restaurant around here serves banana pudding in pint mason jars that is both attractive and insanely good.

Since cost is a factor be sure to figure in how expensive the jars are. A quick check on-line put them at a dozen for $10-$12, so depending on how many guests you have that could add up. I was searching half pint jars which most of those pics are (some are wide mouth, some are regular mouth) The pumpkin and chocolate cake (below the poppy seed cake, which is a pint BTW) are in 4 oz jars.

generally mason jars cost the same per jar regardless of size. You'll pay the same for a dozen qt jars and a dozen pint or half pint jars, mostly.

We are having a small wedding, only about 30 adult guests. So it is a fairly reasonable amount to purchase, as well as to have on hand to use again. Not like "what am I going to do with 300 mason jars??"

I think Specialty Bottle has some pretty reasonably priced jars:

They are really cute!

hah. you just THINK 300 mason jars would be a bad thing. your wrong. (lol, I perpetually could use more jars. I love using them as tupperware, as well as for canning, fermenting, etc). ok, I guess 300 half pints would be annoying, I use more pints and qts.
