5mth old constantly scrunches up nose and takes fast sniffs/breaths

It's looks like he's making a face - like when you smell something stinky and while taking really fast, shallow breaths, that are more like alot of sniffs. It doesn't seem to bother him. He doesn't have a cold or runny nose. But he does it alot. Sometimes if I do it he'll do it back to me. So I'm wondering if its just a quirk or if he has a breathing issue.

Does anyone else babe do this?

DD2 did this. I don't recall if DD1 did. Lately DD2 is panting like a dog instead. I think they are just exploring what they can do.

it's not a breathing issue. lots of babies do it. dd did it around that age... she'd crack herself up. and i remember babies i watched when i was a nanny years ago doing the same thing.

One of my friend's babies did that. She's make such funny faces we called her Mia Magoo, because she looked like Mr. Magoo when she did it!

Yeah, mine does this. I don't think he did it as young as 5 months, but he definitely does it now at 9 and 10 months, mostly when he's being silly and laughing in a funny way.

When he was little he used to do it when he was outside in the cold or when a big gust of air hit him in the face. That's a bit different though.

I agree it's probably just a new experience for him and he's testing out all the sounds and noises he can make.

Every baby I've known goes through this stage, I think it's hilarious and extremely adorable, and stops way too soon! Like learning to blow raspberries. Enjoy this little quirky thing that they do!

I've noticed ds does this when he has a booger
