DH went to the dentist today for a routine hygiene and check-up appointment. His dentist referred him to a periodontal specialist to "see about" a skin graft for a receded gum. The graft would come from skin from the top of his mouth. He does not have any gum disease, btw.
The hits I'm getting from searches are calling up mostly for-profit periodontal clinics. So assuming that most (if not all) of you are not dental professionals, I still have a few questions that (admittedly) DH should have asked his dentist.
1. How severe should the recession be before considering this procedure?
2. What happens if he does nothing?
3. How effective is the procedure?
Of course I'll have him ask all of these questions of his periodontist, but do you have any of your own insights, experiences, or links? It's good to hear things from the consumer side, too.
Are there any other considerations or things DH should know before he makes the decision? TIA!

OK, that's a big concern of mine....that he'll get it but the gum will keep receding. It's soooooo hard to find reliable dental research.
