Taking 2 y/o backpacking- noticed she's making a habit of falling asleep in her Kelty TC 2.0 lately. Her head just dangles. I need to rig something up to stick in there to keep it from not doing that. My best thought is some foam batting in an upside-down horseshoe shape with a piece of fabric that has a little give (not too much- I don't want her head turning into it and her not being able to breathe) connecting each side stuffed in there with her so that her head will rest in that. Thoughts? Suggestions on fabric? Better ideas?!?!!?

I don't think you need batting. I think batting could impede breathing while a simple piece of cotton fabric is more breatheable should it get over your childs air passages. Just sew or pin some fabric either to the carrier or the pack. Cut it out in a square and then sew some little straps on the 2 top corners so you can hold them or wrap them around your shoulder straps. The hood can be pulled over your child's head when she falls asleep and can hold it in place.
Check out the hood on the Ergo to get the gist of the idea. Some carriers are using a sweatshirt style hood these days and it is very popular! It helps block more light and noise as it surrounds the childs head more. If you want to see other pictures of the square hood you can look at my site at www.motherandbebe.com in the Gallery.
I hope this helped!
