New experiment- NETTLES on the teeth!

The grass fed ghee experiment didn't work so time for something new:

I am applying nettle powder to my teeth every night as a quest to prevent a tooth from getting any worse (turning to a cavity, the tooth has a dark spot on it) and healing a cavity next to a mercury filing. I don't want to have to have the filing out while breastfeeding my 10 month old, so I am trying everything I can.

I brush and then apply the powder to the needed areas and then go to bed. This has been almost for a week. My teeth feel fine and the dark spot isn't getting any worse. I even had a trouble spot of gums that is a really nice color after a long time. I always got a little bleeding when I floss by a tooth that is my only root canal tooth and it stopped bleeding. I was actually shocked as it bleeds even when the rest of my gums are healthy. But last night, no bleeding. Not sure if it is related to the nettles, or all the watermelon I have been eating. I also did change my source of vitamin C a few weeks ago.

Not sure if you all are tired of my crazy experiments, but I will write anyway just in case someone is out there and for something for me to read back on...

I love experiments!

What C are you taking now? I just ordered the Acerola from Mountain Rose Herbs.

I was taking camu camu powder from www.herbalcom.com, but it seems that my nursing ds doesn't agree with it, so I switched to the best I could find at the moment at the local HFS. It is from NOW and it an all natural amla berry Vit C called TrueC. Sure hope that it is pure unlike the NOW acerola. I may switch to just straight acerola powder when I finish up this bottle. Good to know that MRH's carries it.

We are finally buying some property and we plan on growing some amla berries (gooseberries), a they do well in my cold VT zone 3. And since the grass fed ghee (and butter) is out for now, dh and I talked it over and we are going to raise ducks! No we aren't going to force feed them, but we will have all the great fat and livers whatever size they come in!

With ghee not working out, it makes me to realize more that there is no one straight blueprint to teeth healing. Also seeing things help my dd and not me goes to show me that we need different nutrients too.

vitamin d

I like experiments too! Are you doing vitamin D drops too? We use NOW brand. Vitamin D is crucial to tooth health. My cavities have stopped their advancement since using this. I also quit using toothpaste of any kind on my teeth (I also have a very low sugar intake now) If I brush (I usually scrape my teeth with my fingernails a lot) I use natural soap only. If I could afford it I would get this tooth soap. http://toothsoap.com/

I do take Vit D, 4000iu's per day(or more if I feel I need it), but not now if I am in the sun for hours. Yay summer!

I did try tooth soap and it went terribly wrong. The tooth shreds went rancid and really irritated my gums. The company is so good and refunded my money. I may try the liquid toothsoap someday.

oooohhhh! that looks great! how much do you take?

The max dosage for natural vitamin C is 250 mg. according to Eat Fat, Lose Fat.

I believe it is about 1 teasp. of this acerola powder if I figured out the percentage (17.5% of C) right.

You don't need to take as much natural C as chemical ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate, nor do the bowel tolerance test which my gut was never happy with. I slacked on my natural C this spring and found that it was really the way to keep my hay fever sx gone (eta: that is, some sx came back when I slacked and went away when I restarted!)

thank you, JansS!

Nettle does help with coagulation, so that could be part of the stopped bleeding. It's such good stuff; what a good idea!
