question for sock knitters (and others who use dpns)

Do you try to untwist the stitches as you go?

I mean, if I just knit as I would spns, I notice that all the stitches are twisted and the fabric is both tighter because of that and that if I knit it long enough it would turn in one direction ever so slightly, like a screw.

I can fix this if I knit into the front of the stitches but that's a major pain!

So what do the experienced knitters do?

it sounds like you may have twisted sts at your join and need to start from scratch Using dpns for circular knitting does not require any special care in knitting each individual stitch...the only difference is that the piece is joined together vs one flat piece.

Try using an extra long cable needle (I use a 32")and the magic loop method for socks....I always used the dpns until I discovered this. Now I will NEVER go back lol!!! Just google it, and u'll find video help on it. Its sooo much easier than handling 5 needles and sooo much faster as well! HTH

O forgot to mention that if you're using a toe-up pattern, the 1st row after the cast on, one half of the sts WILL be backwards no matter what needles/method you're using. So, you will need to knit into the back of these sts, but it should only be about 12 sts anyways. Let me know if you need any more help...

Yes, this!

It's SO much easier and faster being able to knit two socks at once, too. Whoever came up with the method is a bona fide genius!

Nope. definitely not the mobius strip thing you get when you join wrong. i'm talking about individual stitches being twisted, much like what you get when you are using a knitting loom.

I have a pair of socks going now where this is very obvious to me so I will try to take pics and show you what I mean.

I can't promise anything though as I'm supposed to have this baby any hour now!

I intend to do magic loop eventually but I'm quite happy with the dpns atm though I don't see how magic loop would resolve this particular issue.
