Someone told me that after having my son that I could start loosing my hair, and then someone else told me it was from stopping my prenatals. I still take my prenatals but my hair is falling out in gobs, luckily I have a lot. Has anyone else had this experience? What did you do? TIA!

My hair was still falling out really bad at 7 months pp. I can't quite remember when it stopped, but I want to say it was around 1 year. It got really bad in a couple spots. I couldn't wear my hair pulled back into a pony tail because I had a bald-ish area around my hair line that I was very self-conscious of. My hair ended up thin, but it's been almost 2 years now and it's back to normal. I didn't do anything to help it along. It just corrected itself.

I coulda made Bret Michals a wig or two with all the hair I lost postpartum. The hormones that normally allow your hair to shed are suppressed during pregnancy and may take some time to kick in. Once your hormones are back to normal, you can lose quite a bit of hair -- but remember, you've been saving up for it for a lot of months. If it gets thin in places, a good haircut can help until it evens out again (it should).

It's because while you're pregnant and immediately postpartum you don't lose much hair. You lose way less than you do normally. Then when the hormones start to return to their non-maternity state, all the hair you would have lost during all those months comes out all at once. It's normal and nothing to worry about.

For me, it was usually around 6 to 8 months postpartum that the worst of it happened.

Thanks everyone! Well now that I know it's normal how did you all keep your houses clean - it's impossible to keep up with; there's hair everywhere! It's in the bed, on the floor, on the clothes, ect. Also, did someone say it generally lasts 3 months? Is their anyway I can help it along? TIA!

The only time I had that problem post-partum was when my thyroid tanked. I may be a voice in the wild here, but I suggest getting a thyroid test just to be certain it's all good.
