Newborn has good latch but won't stay put...

DD is 3 days old, and my milk is starting to come in nicely. The only problem is that she won't latch for more than a couple of minutes at a time. She latches on perfectly, then immediately lets go. Or she sucks a few times and then spits the nipple out, tries to get latched again and starts screaming. She's been doing this for about 12 hours and has slept about an hour all day. She seems hungry all the time and obviously isn't getting enough milk despite being at the breast constantly. What can I do?

hang in there!
what is her output like? how many pees and poops?
is she tongue-tied?
is your let down really strong?
you may just need to ride this out as she learns

congrats!

Sounds very much like tongue tie. It can be hard to see. Check out the Tongue Tie FAQ on here and look for a doc who's experienced in tongue tie. I had to see 2 lactation consultants, 2 oral-motor therapists and an adult/pediatric ENT before finally seeing a dedicated pediatric ENT who saw the small, tight, oddly-placed tie.

If it is tongue tie, the earlier you can have it clipped, the better. DS was clipped at 5.5 weeks and is still (at 8.5 weeks) trying to re-learn how to nurse.
