I was totally misled by the 'massage' part and really shocked when I received fundal torture. It hurt more than delivery, and I SWEAR it's the reason for this one particular hemorrhoid.

(Of course, this varies by health care provider. With DS1 it was awful, with DD1 it was heaven)
Is this what they do to everyone after when they push on your stomach to make all the fluid come out? It totally freaked me out, I had no idea the nurse was going to do that.

-That kegels don't work for everybody, even if you do them religiously.

-Talk about afterpains... 1 and 2 weren't bad, I didn't even feel them. 3 was pretty intense but didn't bother me much past the first 12ish hours and ibuprofen took care of them, 4 was what did me in... I actually NEEDED (and my doctor who was very naturally minded couldn't believe I hadn't taken them yet) prescription painkillers. After my miscarriage was pretty intense, too, but not too bad... but I'm fully expecting to need something to manage the afterpains after this one.

-No one told me that when I brought home baby #2 that baby #1 would seem HUGE. And that this would mess with my head greatly. I make sure to tell all 2nd time mamas this.

I'm sure I have more but those stuck out most to me at this moment, lol.

Yes, that's it.

Awful, isn't it?

That my best friend after birth was that silly water bottle! I couldn't pee until I sprayed myself with warm water. (mental note...get a few of these for my home birth. does anyone know where I can get them?)

Even if you weren't allergic to pads before when you were a teen that doesn't mean that you aren't now! I thought I had hemorrhoids but no...I was just allergic to the pads I was using!

I always forget how small newborns are, even "big" ones! DD1 was 10 lbs and DD2 was 9 lb 9 oz, but they both just seemed unimaginably tiny after being used to nursing my toddler. And yes, after each birth my nursing toddler suddenly looked huge. As in "am I nursing a freaking high schooler?!" kind of huge!

MOst nurses have let me do my own once they are satisfied I am aggressive enough but there was one nurse.....after #6.
OMgoodness!! She was massaging my fundus with her fingertips....uncomfortable but not awful and then all of a sudden makes a fist and puts all her (considerable) weight behind and WHOOF!!!!!
OW!!OW!!!OW!!!! but I guess it was necessary as a clot about the size of a grapefruit came out.

.....that not everyone enjoys being pregnant, and that doesn't make you a bad person. Between the morning sickness, fatigue, discharge, achy breasts, swelling, backaches, insatiable hunger, unstable emotions, nosy questions and dodging strangers outstretched hands (seriously, what's with the belly touching??? ), I'd rather just go straight to the birth. People seem to expect you to be 'glowing' with joy, and while I couldn't be more excited to meet this new person, it feels so good to admit to myself this time that I'm only in it for the prize.

indeed... Id be happy for pregnancy to simply be feeling kicks then baby comes...

the kicks are my FAVORITE part of pregnancy, even when they get painful for some reason I just love it... but other than that I can do without everything else... lol.

...that it may be more effective to do lower uterine segment massage, which is billed as not even being painful! I heard about it in a midwifery training seminar, and will be talking it over with my MW, for sure. I do NOT like fundal massage!
