Kitchen sink has mold smell

We have a double stainless steel sink in the kitchen, which was probably last renovated in the 80s maybe?

Anyway, whenever I pour hot or boiling water down one side of the sink, like straining pasta, etc, there is mild but noticeable mold smell. Any other time, there is no smell whatsoever. This is the side without the garburator, and there is seemingly no clog in the drain.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you tried cleaning out your garbage disposal? They are linked, so the smell might be coming out of there. You could try grinding up ice cubes, whole coffee beans, or chopped up lemons. You can also clean out the underside of the rubber gasket on the drain in the sink, and reach down and clean out most of the disposal, but be warned, it will probably be disgusting! I'd also try putting baking soda and vinegar down both sides.

My sink stunk until I started using my disposal even for something little once a day or so. I was kinda afraid to use it when we first bought the place (who knows why lol) but I had tried everything, baking soda, let set then hot vinegar, lemons, ice, oranges. Nothing helped until I just used the stupid thing lol.

Hope you find something that works for you, I know it drove me nuts!

Thanks for the replies!

Hmmm, we actually do use the disposal a couple of times a day, and DH puts the drain stopper things in the dishwasher once a week or so, so they do get cleaned regularly but I have never ever cleaned the disposal and not sure how - will try the ice cubes and lemons!

I will try the vinegar and baking soda trick, too. Thanks!
