Primal Fitness Support

Anyone want to join me in discussing and supporting each other while enjoying fitness, primal style?

I haven't been doing anything but play (chase, carry) with my kids, but need to figure out a way to move some more without getting obsessive. ( I confess, I obsess.)

Lets share our experiences, goals, ideas!

Me? I need to get to sleep earlier than I have been (spring! summer! stay up til 12!) and get up and walk a few times a week. OR just be more willing to gather the kids up for a walk/ride. It's hot out now in TX, but my youngest is riding his bike better and better (hes 3!) and I feel safe enough to walk while the kids ride, which will get less grousing and whining than if I make them all walk in the heat for miles.

We have been saying for years that we want to learn to play tennis and use the courts near our house, we should actually DO it!

Also, I would like to go rockclimbing. Maybe get my sister onboard for a date!

Come on, all! Be my friend!

yeah, one of my most enduring issues is my obsessiveness in regards to diet and exercise. I try to keep to the tenet of relaxing with Primal. Remember its a marathon not a sprint, not going to get healthy overnight. Weight will come off if it needs too and eventually *breathe* Seriously need to turn that into a mantra.
I've been doing the 100 push-up program, just finished week 3 Its so hard not to go all out. Same with cardio and legs exercises. I do think I will start the 100?200? squat program though.
Also, I want a sledgehammer.

But can I do for play? I need a good happy play..um thingie, kwim.

Oh same with sleep! I work night though and don't usually get off until 10:30 or 11:30 depending on the day. Then its up with the kids. Need to start getting to bed as soon as I get home though. I have a tendency to watch a movie before bed.

me too! I am staying at home mostly, but (very, very part time) I work for a caterer on her wait staff, and I am starting the liquor promotions today. So once or twice a week I get home between 9 and 12 an I can't just go to bed. I think I need to readjust my thinking that I need to eat and have a glass of wine after "all that work". Probably some tea and honey (honey helps me sleep~) or warm milk and honey would be better and not get my system going for another couple hours.
I want a sledgehammer too! My ds would really try to break stuff if they ever saw it tho.

I workout hard, always have. I go to a gym 3 times a week but do a lot of pullups, dips, crazy bodyweight workouts.....

I love being fit, and strong. STregth/endurance is my main intention and I've met some really great people along the way. I love new challenges for myself

Lisamarie is my hero! I really want to be buff like her!

Currently I've been slacking in the workout department, other than my push up challenge which I'm rocking!

I'm buying a sledgehammer tomorrow so I can start doing my shovelglove workouts!!! http://www.urbanprimalist.com/id3.html

Here's my summer workout goals:

Walk to the lake every morning. (It's quite a hike!) 2 days out of the week do sprints.

I've come up with a fun mama primal sprint game:

I put my two boys on opposite ends of the beach. I then sprint like there's a predator after one of them, scoop him up and sprint to the other. Scoop him up and run them both to the opposite end. I do that as many times as I can. The boys love it!

Shovelglove alternating evenings with weighted walking lunges in the park behind my house.

I'm on my own for the summer, so I will do this after I put the boys to bed. (dh works away all summe ) I can leave the bedroom window open so I can hear them, and get a good workout I think!

Yoga after shovelglove/lunges

So that's my summer plan. On weekends I'll probably just do my pushups and continue to try to do a pull up!

OMG lilem LOL yer too funny and cute! Keep at the pullups, they are hard but the only way to do em is to start doin em! I can bang out lots of them now, but I remember when 2 was lilke next to impossible

What do ya'll do your pull ups on? I doubt I could do even 1 right now, I'm not strong at all, but I would love to try and work on getting stronger.

I have one of those pull up bars that hook into any door way.

Thanks, I was wondering what would be sturdy enough

re: pullups
what about monkey bars?

I can't do any yet, but I've tried a few times on the monkey bars...is there a reason that this would not work (oh, how I'd love an excuse other than how weak I am )

I do them all the time at the park. I can't NOT do pullups wherever i see a bar it's kinda funny LOL

My newest addiction is learning to do muscle ups. I will let you all know when i can do them

If I could actually DO a pull up I probably would at the park. The embarrassing part is my inability to perform even one!

You know what, nola? Trying to just go across the monkey bars will increase your strength while you are building up to actual pullups. I am getting better at going across now!

And just hanging from the bar and pulling up as much as you can, or starting at the top (jump from the landing at the top) lower as slow as you can, both helps build up.

Playgrounds can be perfect primal places to workout!

I stumbled across a facebook page called"Crossfit women are not only hot, they kick a$$" and I'm very inspired! There are some fantastic pictures in there. I had looked at the crossfit website before and was interested, but not inspired. It was so cool to see women doing stuff like pull-ups, muscle-ups, deadlifts, clean and snatch, box jumps. I could see myself getting addicted to something like that
I need a kettlebell too.

I'll probably just quietly watch this thread...

I'm cool with the long hikes in the woods, we have lots of fun areas around here. And its easy to sprint and play with my DS (frisbee, baseketball and badminton are current faves).

But "Lifting Heavy Things" has never been my deal. I honestly don't know where to start and I'm... um... too girly for a sledgehammer. Maybe I'll just start with pushups, squats and lunges?

Nobody is too girly for a sledgehammer! Especially since mine has pink hockey tape for the grips! You start with a light weight on, 5 or 10 lbs at the most!

Another good way to increase strength is yoga. Yoga has definitely increased my pushup lunge and squat ability.

Oooo... yoga counts? No problem with that!

All that sounds great, its a start! Thats the most important part, starting.
You may too girly for a sledgehammer or kettlebell NOW, but who's to say to the future
