My DP's family and I went hiking this week, and came across a plant on top of a tall hill that we couldn't identify. DP's mom is an avid gardener and very outdoorsy and she didn't know what it was at all.

It was a shrub, with pink sweet-pea-like flowers with purple centers. The stems were covered in red hairy thorns. The leaves were in groups of 15, 2-3 inches long and opposite each other. The bushes had been eaten down by deer or elk this winter and so they were about 3-4 feet tall. This is in zone 4-5. Anyone?
