Night-time dipe problem...

So my guy's a really heavy wetter. I changed him in the night for months because of it, but we're at the point that if I try to change him in the night now, he wakes up, so I need to figure out another solution.

Lately I've been putting him in 2 red edge PFs (we just sized up) with a Babykicks Hemparoo doubler and a Bummis fleece liner, since he will wake up if he feels wet. I have to cover it with PUL because my wool was winding up soaked by morning. When I take his dipe off in the morning every layer is soaking wet, there's just a small patch of dry on his back. I tried putting him in 3 PFs tonight instead, but he was so uncomfortable that he wouldn't go to sleep - his legs were spread so wide.

Most of our stash is fitteds, with some PFs for night-time, all natural (mostly organic) fibers. I'd really rather stick with mostly natural fibers, because I have enough problems with washing I don't need to be dealing with stink from poly. And I don't care for AIOs. We've used Happy Hempys (pocket fitted) in the past with the fleece inner, but I can't stuff them full enough to hold him through the night and still get a tight enough fit around the legs to contain poo.

Does anyone have any brilliant ideas for me? I'm tempted at this point to go back to changing him in the night and dealing with the waking it causes, just because he'll be more comfortable.

I hear the Flip organic inserts are extremely absorbent.

Other than that, ummm... sposie?

Which wool covers were you using? I could never manage to get the aristocrats right but Disanas are fabulous, they're thicker and softer than the aristocrats and just nicer all around IMO.

Various things that have worked for us (DD2 is a super heavy night wetter): BG 3.0 with both inserts AND hemp doubler (swaddlebees hemp insert just perfect), regular fitted with hemp doubler and another doubler with wool cover, nighttime fitted with extra insert--we use goodmama goodnights and you can get an extra doubler that snaps on at the front, good for a tummy sleeper. Also pampers nighttime diaps, only ones that hold. I've put a wool cover over them sometimes too.

I don't know the prefold sizes (I made most of my own prefolds) but I do one of my largest prefolds & one of my smaller prefolds. I found this was less bulky than doing two of the largest prefolds. I also put the second prefold only in the front so there's less bulk between his legs.

With dd1, I found that hempbabies little weeds were an awesome addition to her nighttime diapers - which were usually a thick pf (you could try to fit the bigger weeds on a nighttime dipe too, or use instead of one of the additional pf with what you're doing). They prevented a lot of leaking for us and seemed to remain more 'dry-feeling' for her than other things we tried because it was a cotton-hemp 'fleece'.
