Veg*n cutting out soy?

DH has a good friend who is vegetarian and does not eat dairy. He is a single guy, busy lifestyle, always on the go and travels for work all the time. He wants to get rid of the soy in his diet, but is admittedly dependent on the fake meat soy based products, like the morningstar farms type stuff. I told him I'd ask around and see what others use for protein sources and such when you don't do meat, soy or dairy.

I'm a vegan, who can't eat soy! I have to admit, I feel much healthier since soy has been out of my diet...

So, what we do is - enriched rice milk, lots of lentils in everything, beans, nuts... The usual! He can try and make his own wheat based meat substitute (although if he travels, might not be the best). I know you can buy wheat based meat subs someplaces, although I've never found any without soy in them...
