Anyone do the eat a lot of beans suggestion for ms?

Did it work for you? I'm desperate to try something, anything different this time around. But the thought of eating cup after cup of black beans to try and cure my ms is kind of making me feel.

I have never heard that and cannot see how it would help...

What else have you tried?

seabands
constant small snacks so you dont get too hungry
crackers when you wake up
boiled eggs/other protein
b6
preggie pops
ginger
smelling lemon
tasting lemon
if its bad enough, you can even get a prescription from your doctor.

I've done everything else except this. I get hg though, so maybe there just is no cure for me other than prescription drugs (which help a bit) and waiting it out.

I have never heard of the bean thing, either, HOWEVER I had TERRIBLE cravings for bean burritos in particular during the MS stage and some days I would be eating 2 or 3 of them! They seemed to help like almost nothing else! Really dense and big and beany (though I don't know if they were generally black beans, I'd say more like kidney). I thought it was just that they are so dense and have lots of protein and fibre which are all recommended for MS. I also ate a lot of canned beans usually with cheese (something else that the burritos had a lot of).

edit: now that I am reading that article posted above, I also ate a LOT of tinned lentil soup (sadly ate lots of canned food for lunch at work) and quite a few cooked chick pea dishes! Who would have known my cravings actually meant anything!

I'd say it sure can't hurt it helped me a lot!

I did up my protein intake when I had morning sickness. My midwife suggested I eat snacks high in protein to curb nausea. It didn't necessarily cure my MS but I found I was able to keep high protein foods down better.

It's worth a try!

How about I add a bunch of legumes to my shopping list and report back? I'm dying from the m/s over here.

The thought of eating beans makes me ill...I guess the texture.

I have tried B6 and zofran with okay success. Zofran helps but causes severe constipation, so I am going to try zantac next, because my m/s feels like when I had a stomach ulcer

I don't know if I buy into that article at all - mainly because I was on a low fat diet and ate only whole foods before I was pregnant and watched a lot of my diet because my daughter is intolerant to diary, soy, egg and a few other foods. For some reason the only foods that alleviated my m/s are high fat foods, I ate fast food for the first time in over 3 years, and actually felt better.

Huh. When I was hospitalized for ms and hg they had me on a low fat diet (after I graduated from feeding tubes and ensures) and it had me feeling pretty good. Everybody is so different though.

My ms this morning was awful. This afternoon I feel pretty darn good so I choked down some beans and I still feel good (could be a coincidence I'm aware). Now I'm looking through my MIL's cook books. Because if I'm going to try this experiment, I need more variety of better tasting beans!

I'll keep it up and report back. Though the first time I get sick on the beans will probably be the last day I'm brave enough to keep this going. I am an emetaphobic after all.

For me the only thing I can chalk it up to is maybe I don't have enough fat in general for a baby, or maybe my m/s is caused because I have this stomach ulcer and not regular reasons. I am pretty disgusted that Mcdonalds chicken nuggets make me fell better myself. And pizza. And I want fried chicken too.

actually I did try this. And I tell ya' it worked really well for me (I mostly did bean burritos with refried beans).

I read on Karen Hurd's site (PP already linked it) that:
The reason you get m/s is because your liver is responding to the influx of hormones by producing extra bile. The beans bind to the bile and flush it out of your system. I was willing to try anything because I was miserable and thought it can't hurt.

What I did: buy a package of whole wheat tortillas, several cans of organic refried beans (both black and pinto) and cheddar cheese, oh and scallions! I rolled them up and saved them in the refrigerator for anytime that I started feeling really yucky. Them I'd pop one in the microwave for 1 minute.

Protein worked really well for me too. Especially turkey sandwiches. Eggs were pretty good. I also bought the high protein Greek yogurt and that worked in a pinch.

Don't be! I crave McDonalds chicken nuggets like crazy when I'm breastfeeding. I could eat them all the time then.
