*urgent* Is nightweaning NOW a good idea?

I am 8 weeks pg with #4. I am always nursing when I get pg so I have been here before. I always nightwean and fairly early on due to discomfort, extra disruption fromhaving to pee all the time and pg body aches and such. I wasn't planning to wean my 18 month old ds until we got back from our 2 week trip to see my family in Texas. But recently ds is wanting to latch on and suck hard and for such a long time that my back starts to ache. He wakes up in a horrible unrested mood that lasts all morning. I give up trying to nurse him into happiness at about 5:30am when I just get up with him. We're both very tired.

I will be going on this trip without dh. I'm thinking that nightweaning ds now as opposed to when we get back my be the answer. My other 2 got the hang of the new deal in about a weeks time (still cosleeping, used the old "mama's boobies are sleeping, nurse when it's light out" bit).

Will it backfire when I get to my folks house??
I can't handle a child that is constantly melting down and tired.
My parent house is small and love them, 2 weeks is a looooong time to live there under those circumstances.

Oh...we leave in 2 weeks. I would start tonight.

In my experience they are too busy to nurse during the day when we are traveling so they nurse more at night. In this case you could probably make more time to nurse during the day. Are you going to be sleeping in the same bed while out of town? If you are not sleeping together and make day time nursing a priority I don't see a problem with night weaning now.

I night weaned my two year old when I was around 8 weeks. We took a trip to visit my parents a few weeks later. Her daytime nursing frequency during that trip went through the roof which was kind of awkward since my family doesn't really approve of her "still" nursing. Then she got an ear infection while we were still staying with them... I un-night weaned her for close to a week and then went back to "the mama milks are asleep" routine once we were at home and she felt better. 10 weeks later she is still night weaned and barely nursing during the day.

I don't know if that helps at all but that's my experience with night weaning and traveling. My daughter is 2.5 though so about a whole year older than your son, no idea if that makes a difference in relation to how easy they adjust. I totally failed when I tried to night wean her at 18 months, but I wasn't pregnant then either.

I nightweaned ds at 14 months. Since then we've had several interruptions to that & gone smoothly back to not night nursing when the interruption passes. I think it is doable.
