7 month old sucking on arm

One of my sons has been sucking on his arm to the point where he's giving himself hickies or raspberry marks. I don't want to freak him out or anything by scaring him, so I try to gently distract him, but he does it so quick! I put him in the high chair and turned around to get the dish of food for lunch and bam, he had a new mark.

Is there something I should be worried about? I try to give him things to suck and chew on - he's got a wooden teether and he likes to suck on like knots in fabric, and he sometimes likes a binkie.

Any words of wisdom here?

Stop using such delicious baby soap

My daughter does that sometimes too. She used to do it a lot more, but at 10 months she's slowing down some. I just let her do it. I assume if they were feeling pain they would stop.

My DS used to do this. From about 2 to 12 mos. I haven't seen him do it in ages now so I guess he just out grew it. We thought it was hilarious at the time because his grandfather (my FIL) did the exact same thing and still does at 75 years old! Only his left arm and just when he's tired, same as DS.
