Are there any certifications for teaching parenting?

So one can become certified for being a doula, for teaching nfp, breastfeeding, birthing, etc...

Is anyone aware of an organization that trains people to become teachers of facilitators for parenting classes? I have the "right" education for this but really would prefer not needing to "come up with stuff" by myself.

Thanks for any and all ideas!

What venue are you thinking of teaching in? I've attended lots of parenting classes, but they were all conducted by school districts and the teachers/facilators were people with Early Childhood or Early Childhood and Family Services teaching degrees (4 year degree).

This doesn't cover it all, but if you are interested in exercise and diet you can become a Dr. Sears certified LEAN coach.

As the pp said, it depends on the venue - I was a certified parent educator for Parents as Teachers - but I received the training and certification as part of my position with Michigan State University Extension - they also teach a number of classes (some of which parents are 'court ordered' to attend) We taught a variety of classes including How to Talk to Kids will Listen - and Kids are worth it by Barbara Colorosso - and we had some great resources like Preventing Power Struggles by Becky Bailey -
I had the amazing fortune to work as a parent educator for five years before having my own and I use what I learned during that time EVERY DAY with my 'spirited child'
But to get certified and then start your own business kind of thing might be kind of tough -
I friend of mine did some kind of "parenting with awareness" program but I'm not sure what the set up/cert was...

good luck

Mary Kurcinka, who wrote Raising Your Spirited Child and Sleepless in America, two of my favorite AP-friendly parenting books, describes herself as a "licensed parent educator." I have no idea what license that is.

There's a certification through the Positive Discipline Association if you like that approach:
