Howdy, I am in Maryland, have a 5 year old and 1 year old and I am hoping to plan my "next" as a home birth. I'm also hoping to switch to a pediatrician that is more in line with my style...my neck is starting to hurt from all the smiling & nodding and I'm letting him creep into my head and make me doubt myself too much!

Hello and welcome to MDC!

A pediatrician who "feels right" for you is a big destressor in your life as a parent. I can absolutely relate. When we repatriated to Germany (after 5 years in the USA) I chose a pediatrician where I didn't have to be defensive for my homebirths, for "extended" BF, for trying naturopathic methods first, and so on. I've never regretted it even though the drive was a little longer (ca. 60 min. instead of 20 min.). Good luck on your quest!

Thanks! We followed a pediatrician to his own practice because he was actually the best out there. Pro intact boys, pro breastfeeding...but...pushing my son's foreskin back, expecting breastfed babies to sleep all night, saying night nursing is a "bad habit," expecting me to give cow milk & start to wean etc. I know that he does some alt vaxing but I don't know how he would react to a home birth without a "legal" midwife. *gulp*

I'm beating myself up now for not speaking up last week but the idea of standing up to him and telling him that I do not want him touching my son's foreskin no matter WHAT he is looking for and no matter what he thinks it is (gentle pushing, peeking, not retracting etc) The idea of attempting to say something gets me all hot & shaky & near tears. I need to grow a pair. :-(
