it is official, i am a dirty hippie.

actually, that is a running joke between my sister and i. our mom was a hippie back in the day only to turn ultra consvative in her later years. i never got that.

but she used to refer to some people as "dirty hippies", it cracked me up. now she would call me a dirty hippie for sure.:LOL
ok, back on topic. i stopped using poo and soap over the winter. i haven't shaved in months. my skin is improving, my hair looks and feels amazing, i don't have dandruff anymore but i'm kind of worried that i'm a little smelly. i think i need to use more eo's in my cleaning regimen. maybe i'm just still getting used to a non-chemical smell too. i don't know

:
i thought i'd add some things that i have been reading about in 'our earth, our cure'. this book is great, everything i've tried so far has worked. it is by raymond dextriet, the english version can be credited to michel abehsera. i love this book, it was my mom's. the copyright says 1974 but i'm sure there are copies still floating around. it is the hippie healing bible.:LOL
"Deep cleansing masks
Perhaps the easiest way to use clay is as a skin beautifier. When applied to the skin as a mask, oxidation and circulation are accelerated, defensive functions stimulated and body termperatures lightly raised. Thus clay acts rather like a light massage. In addition, clay, as with every natural product, is a balancer and revitalizer.
To mix your own masks, make a paste by adding 1/2 glass of water, 1/2 a cucumber, tomatoes, or grape juice to clay powder. Apply thinly and uniformly all over face, back, or wherever you have over-oily or troubled skin. Leave the pack moist as long as possible to give skin flexibility with no sensation of tightness. Then allow to dry and rinse off.
Clay, being very absorbent, thoroughly, but very gently, cleanses the tissues. Because it is so kind, it may evern be applied to dry and delicate skin, without drying at all.
A more soothing cosmetic cream can be made by mixing clay powder with olive oil, or you can use the French masks, ready-blended with pure olive oil and sweet almond oil.
Treat any unwanted growths or blemishes with clay. Apply very thickly on a pimple or wrinkle at night and leave until morning. Wash irritated, pimply, grainly, or very delicate skin with clayish water, without soap, then rub it with the inside of a lemon peel."
this is how i have been washing my whole body, with clay water, and diluted lemon juice on my face to tone. i cannot believe the results i'm getting, my face looks better than it has in years. i do clay masks as often as i can too.
this next part i haven't used but might be helpful to someone...

here's what it says about shampoo:
"Clay is excellent for regular hair washing as it has a natural acid pH that is similar to the skin. It is particularly recommended for a greasy scalp. To combat this, make a clear paste with water and apply as a shampoo. Leave on for at least half and hour and rinse off. The European shampoos contain olive oil and plant-based foaming agents to bring hair back to its natural lustre."
here's what it says about toothpaste:
"One of the best natural toothpastes is clay or a mix of clay and seasalt. Being so absorbent, clay is completely non-abrasive. It lifts off dulling film, removes mnouth odors naturally, and acts as a gum stimulant."
here's what it says about soaps:
"Blended with honey and olive oil, clay makes a very effective soap. It removes deep-seated grime, acts as a natural deodorant, and balances the skin. The added ingredients bring their own softening and soothing qualities for first class skin care."
there are also recommendations for cleansing the inside of the body (stimulating organ functions) to keep the rest of the body healthy and skin looking good.
i'm going to shut up now as this has become a really long post.
