Finding a doula?

Thread Starter
Im currently 29 weeks pregnant with my 4th child and I have been searching for a doula pretty much since I was 10 weeks. We don't have much in the way of extra funds right now so I looked into a place that offers doulas for low income mothers. Well after looking into it a lil more I have decided I dont think I want to go that route as some of the "doulas" are not trained doulas but rather social workers and nurses and the like and I don't think I would much rather have someone who is trained (or even in training) for that particular profession.
So I am wondering if anyone has any ideas? Does anyone know of doulas in MI who work on a sliding scale or offer payment plans of some sort? I am in Southeastern Michigan and I would appreciate any recommendations anyone has

Doulas Care - http://doulascare.org/ - serves SE Michigan for free or on a sliding scale. I'm assuming this is the group you're already familiar with, though.

In addition, most of the doulas that I talked to when choosing mine indicated that they accept fees on at least somewhat of a sliding scale, especially during these difficult financial times. Some of them also offered the possibility of fewer pre- or post-natal visits to reduce cost.

I found several to interview at Center For the Childbearing Year - http://center4cby.com/birth-doulas.html When you email or call, don't hesitate to ask about a sliding fee scale right up front so you don't waste time talking to someone you definitely can't afford.
