Complicated school issues re: vaxes, please help!

Ok, ODS is 5, he has been in preschool since age 3. He received all his vaxes before I knew differently, up to and not including MMR or Varicella.

He has a lot of issues - food allergies, asthma, SPD, and has had issues with minor vaccine reactions. His ped and allergist don't think he should be vaccinated because of all his issues (unless there's an outbreak) but neither is willing to sign a medical exemption because if I sued a pharm company, they don't want to be involved. (I don't plan to sue anyone, my son is who he is - I made the best decisions I could at the time.)

Anyway, his preschool is affiliated with his elementary school and sent his vax record there already, stating he has had some vaxes. I need to submit his kindergarten paperwork (medical info, meds paperwork, and shot record.)

In Ohio, can I claim a philosophical exemption if he's partially vaxed? If so, where could I find a form letter or something to that effect?

If not philosophical, I don't really object to suddenly becoming religious - could I use a religious exemption if he's had some?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

You can change your beliefs at any time. My dd was almost fully vaxed and then ds got 2 sets of shots I claimed the exemption for both when dd started school. I dont know about the types of exemptions they have there but either way you can change your thinking/beliefs so you can claim one or the other.

I was thinking I would be able to change my beliefs. I just hope it's not an issue since they know he had some vaxes... this could get messy. Hopefully not.

Thanks!

Hi Denise! Philosophical exemptions are great as you can change your philosophy at any time. We are in WI and haven't had an issue having partially vaxed kids in public school at all.

Take care.

You are very lucky since Ohio allows all three exemptions (religious, philosophical, medical)! Look here for more information. I'm sure if you search this board for how to write a philosophical exemption you'll find help. Good luck!

Yep, I filled out a partial philosophical exemption in Ohio for my oldest (and my middle, although his is partial medical and partial philosophical, he has a medical exemption against the live vaccines and philosophical for the rest).

I just asked the school nurse for the form (I brought my own in case she didn't have one, but she did...be sure to read it and edit as necessary, the form she gave me included a statement about knowingly putting my child at risk, I crossed that off and initialed it) then I stapled the exemption to the partial shot record.

Ohio is a very easy state!
